The Southbank precinct of Melbourne is one of the special places that every visitor should have a look at because it is the very essence of what Melbourne is about.
Following the Yarra River, the Southbank precinct flows seamlessly into the Casino riverfront area, and then into the Exhibition/Convention Centre which then turns into the Docklands area. Basically the entire length which starts from Swanston St and follows the river along a landscaped walkway, is restaurant after bar, after restaurant, after gallery, after ice-cream shop, and so on.
It is easy to lose oneself here, simply strolling along the river walk and gazing over the water towards the city buildings, or stopping at any one of the cafes or bars for a coffee, a beer or a leisurely lunch or dinner.
My wife and I live about 40 Kilometers away, but love to visit Southbank for lunch or dinner and do so often.
