“Great facilities at the Promenade”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013 via mobile

We stayed one night on the 20th floor and had a great overall experience.
The room was large with 2 comfortable queen beds. There was a couch overlooking the fabulous view.
The bathroom had a huge shower and was stylish. The towels were very narrow though.
We ate dinner at the conservatory restaurant which was an easy walk from our room.
The staff were really friendly and professional. We also swam in the pool which was warm and large enough to cater for all the guests and had an out door seating area.

I was very surprised that I could get such quality at such a low price (booked through Wotif and paid $250 per night). The service was impeccable and attention to detail great.

The room I had was spacious with great views. Linen and pillows wonderful quality. Bathroom large with well lit mirror and lots of space to get the job done if you are female with lots of bottles. I came for Derby Day so it was a real treat to have such a nice place to get my plumage on!

Good working area if you are traveling for business. It had a kettle and tea etc which I've noticed not all hotels have these days.

I ate breakfast in the restaurant and the food was simple and not cheap but good value I think compared to other similar hotels. Surprisingly my cappuccino was OK which is unusual for large hotels where I find they typically are poorly equipped to deliver a decent coffee. Also the room service menu was extensive. I had a great meal of tandoori lamb and chickpea curry and it was one of the best meals I've had from a room service menu ever.

The pool area is awesome. Lots of glass and light. There's a gym which is in 2 parts: one area for cardio and a decently fitted out weights area. This is the reason I'll be booking again as is a wonderful space to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the higher floors with a view

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your recent stay at the Crown Promenade Melbourne. It was wonderful to read such positive comments which will be shared with our Team and be appreciated.

We are fortunate to have lovely bathrooms with large bench space which is convenient when getting ready and you need everything at your fingertips! Our F&B Department will be delighted to know your enjoyed their offerings from breakfast to dinner with the tandoori lamb & chickpea curry being “one of the best meals” you’ve had from a Room Service menu.

Thanks again for the positive feedback and we hope to welcome you back soon.

Having stayed at Crown Towers and Metropol a number of times, our experience at the Promenade was disappointing. The service just isn't in the same class as the other Crown hotels. We found the hotel crew to be impatient and direct/rude - the service attention is lacking.

The rooms seemed 'aged' in comparison of the other two hotels.

Look, it was okay but I am glad that my company was paying not me. For such a price (and it doubled at the weekend because of the Melbourne Cup races) I was disappointed. $29 for a breakfast, $5 for a bottle of water in the room (none free) etc was a bit galling; good job I am used to Perth prices. On the positive side, the service received from staff on reception and especially around the conference were truly exceptional. But at nearly $300 per night I at least expect some shower gel not a cheap bar of soap like I get in a mine site donga. I would expect to see a lot more amenities, including ear plugs because it was really noisy! Something near the door squeaked every 5 minutes for some reason and being part of the casino complex there were lots of people partying hard, including the kids in the room next door from 4am to 6am. Reception did send someone to threaten them with eviction and the duty manager was very apologetic the next morning and offered a free upgrade next time which was appreciated. But I think I will stay at the Sofitel next time.

Room Tip: Maybe ask reception for a quiet room away from revellers

Melbourne was our first stop on a two week tour of Australia, and this hotel was a perfect place to start. It's in the Southbank area and part of the Crown complex, with other hotels, a casino and a shopping mall right next to the hotel. You can walk to the other shops, restaurants and hotels in the Southbank area, plus you are near the museum/theatre complex. It's a short walk across any of several bridges to the Central Business District and Flinders Street Station, which will get you anywhere else in the city you need to go. We didn't spend for a deluxe room, and yet our room was nicely sized and had a great city view. Service was very friendly, and we had a very pleasant stay here. We'd certainly love to stay here when we return to Melbourne someday.

This is a very nice hotel close to multiple Melbourne attractions, especially the Southbank area. The room was very nicely furnished and staff were courteous, friendly and efficient. They were quite accommodating, arranging for a room change because of allergies. Breakfast at the Mesh restaurant was excellent, as was room service. So why not an excellent rating? The internet connection was incredibly slow, about 100 to 200 kb/sec on most days, although at times it was up to 250 kb/sec. Their internet service is advertised at 2 mb/sec downloads, for which the usual cost is $30/d (it was part of my hotel package). I had to rely on public internet connections elsewhere to conduct some of my business. So if you will need high speed internet during your stay, avoid this hotel. Otherwise it is an excellent hotel, albeit a very expensive one (compared to US hotels).

A very modern hotel which is part of the Crown Casino centre. The rooms are very good with every facility. The staff are pleasant. Within the Crown centre there are numerous eateries and many shops. It is literally true to say you don't have to go outside if you don't want to (useful when there's a cyclone - but that's another story. The CBD is about a ten minute walk away but this is not a problem (mind how you cross the road).
