We stayed at the Crown Promenade Hotel for three nights. Overall this hotel was impressive! The first night we stayed in a standard room and it was already far better than some hotels. The room was big, stylish, comfortable and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Not many hotels these days have two queen beds for you in one standard room.
The second night we decided to move to a corner room. It is slightly larger but with only one king-size bed but the view of the Yarra river was superb. The bathroom of both rooms were similar--and of-course very clean and modern.
There were two things I felt they could have done better were, those convectional TVs. They should have used LCDs. Second was wireless internet connection. The floor I stayed in has absolutely no wireless connection. The only way to use the internet was to connect to the data port located at the desk.
Checking in was easy. Check-in staff were very friendly.
The hotel connects to the Crown Casino and entertainment complex with cinema and loads of restaurants. However, you cannot use the shortcut if you have a kid aged under 18, you have to cross the streets in front of the hotel instead.
The location was pretty good. If you don't want to go to the Crown complex, you can still head to the riverfront and there you can find so many restaurants and bars. You can also cross the bridge to the CBD or Flinder train station if you want to. If you don't want to walk then this hotel has a free shuttle bus for you to go anywhere in the CBD and to famous locations such as the Victoria Market or Chinatown. The staff who drive you are usually talkative, friendly and also funny. (These guys do everything from driving you to places, carrying your luggages and even solve internet problems on your laptops). Apart from the shuttle bus, there's also a nearby tram stop as well. It may be a little bit far from the downtown, but it doesn't take more than 10 minutes max to go there with any of the options.
It is also pretty close to the Eureka building where you can go up to 88th floor and see the whole city of Melbourne. It's pretty cool, it's one of the must-see in this city.
The breakfast was slightly higher than standard since it doesn't cost much and they have more selection of eggs. (As I'd prefer omelette than scrambled eggs)
I would stay there again if I happen to have to do something in the downtown Melbourne.
