Owner description: Melbourne Central is a diverse shopping and dining destination that invites you to keep exploring. Bringing together more than 300 retailers over five levels, Melbourne Central is home to an absorbing range of Australian and international fashion brands from Gorman, Alannah Hill, Crumpler to Lulamae, Vans and Nique. Take a sugar break at Cupcake Central, a beauty break at Mecca Maxima or an indulgent time-out at Self Centred Medi Spa.The buzz continues after dark, whether you are lurking in Knox Lane with its graffiti by Melbourne's infamous DABS and MYLA, or basking beneath a screen in the Hoyts Director's Suite. Spanning two city blocks, the centre boasts several unique architectural features including the giant Marionette Watch hanging in Shot Tower Square, famous for its hourly rendition of the Australian anthem 'Waltzing Matilda'. The square is named after the historic Coops Shot Tower a bullet-making facility built in 1889. Today, the brick shot tower stands proudly in its original place, protected by a modern twist: the magnificent Glass Cone, designed in the '80s by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. While it floods the centre with natural light, the Glass Cone's design also makes it one of Melbourne's most recognisable landmarks.Located atop the City Loop Melbourne Central train station and can be found on the iconic free city circle tram route. Melbourne Central boasts 822 car parks making it the perfect base for Melbourne city excursions. The five-star-rated parents' retreat offers a sanctuary for families, while The Little Library free book exchange provide spaces for pause and escape from the city's frenetic buzz.Whatever brings you to Melbourne, be it shopping, exploring with the kids, lunch, brunch or simply an unexpected adventure, it is all waiting between Lonsdale and La Trobe.

“Just another mall - but do see the Shot Tower”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014

There's a train station in the basement, a cinema above, and lots of shops. Basically, that's it. It's a good place for fashion shopping and has some other trendy stores. Some uncommon Asian foods and candy lie at the lowest level.

One interesting attraction is the Shot Tower museum, which is just beneath the large glass cone. This was used to produce gunshot by pouring molten metal into thin air and letting it form into spheres as it fell. You don't need to fly in space to produce weightless manufacturing!

“It's just ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013

I would have to say I especially enjoyed Myers Xmas windows display! Lots of people during the day so it's hard to get a good view. Tips: go later at night when the shops are closed, you'll get to enjoy the beautiful display.

“A bit pricey, but some good shopping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

The shopping here is quite good if you're willing to spend a bit of money. For men, there are some nice shops here for business/formal wear that provide fitted garments.

“Shopping and entertainment in one place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

A really good selection of shops, and a hub from which to visit all the other shops around Bourke Street. There were also some very talented street entertainers performing while we were there, which added to the ambience. The Myers window was constantly busy with its fantastic Xmas display, so get in there early!
