Owner description: Melbourne Central is a diverse shopping and dining destination that invites you to keep exploring. Bringing together more than 300 retailers over five levels, Melbourne Central is home to an absorbing range of Australian and international fashion brands from Gorman, Alannah Hill, Crumpler to Lulamae, Vans and Nique. Take a sugar break at Cupcake Central, a beauty break at Mecca Maxima or an indulgent time-out at Self Centred Medi Spa.The buzz continues after dark, whether you are lurking in Knox Lane with its graffiti by Melbourne's infamous DABS and MYLA, or basking beneath a screen in the Hoyts Director's Suite. Spanning two city blocks, the centre boasts several unique architectural features including the giant Marionette Watch hanging in Shot Tower Square, famous for its hourly rendition of the Australian anthem 'Waltzing Matilda'. The square is named after the historic Coops Shot Tower a bullet-making facility built in 1889. Today, the brick shot tower stands proudly in its original place, protected by a modern twist: the magnificent Glass Cone, designed in the '80s by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. While it floods the centre with natural light, the Glass Cone's design also makes it one of Melbourne's most recognisable landmarks.Located atop the City Loop Melbourne Central train station and can be found on the iconic free city circle tram route. Melbourne Central boasts 822 car parks making it the perfect base for Melbourne city excursions. The five-star-rated parents' retreat offers a sanctuary for families, while The Little Library free book exchange provide spaces for pause and escape from the city's frenetic buzz.Whatever brings you to Melbourne, be it shopping, exploring with the kids, lunch, brunch or simply an unexpected adventure, it is all waiting between Lonsdale and La Trobe.

“Loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Bourke street is for the serious shoppers. Myers is huge and so is David Jones. There are also many specialty shops. However, I loved the little dark alley ways. Filled with outdoor heaters and diners these were the true settings for Melbourne.

“Great shopping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

Large, mall-style shopping. Has everything you need. You can loose the wife here all day. Some clothes bargains around and plenty of lunch options abound too.

“Melbourne Culture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

The highlight of Bourke St is the mall: David Jones, Myer, the buskers, the vibrancy, the busyness. Target centre is just at the corner of Swanston and Bourke, with a Daiso, where everything is $2.80. Must visit: David Jones food all for the excellent selection of cakes, pastries, chocolate. The list goes on and on.

Melbourne central, great shopping. The more budget friendly stores and food court as well as Coles are on the lower ground level, as per the train station entrance.

“All in one shopping mall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Great place to shop and eat - the mall is located above the Melbourne Central train station and has everything - shops, supermarkets and cafes. Definitely one of my most visited places in the CBD.
