Owner description: Melbourne Central is a diverse shopping and dining destination that invites you to keep exploring. Bringing together more than 300 retailers over five levels, Melbourne Central is home to an absorbing range of Australian and international fashion brands from Gorman, Alannah Hill, Crumpler to Lulamae, Vans and Nique. Take a sugar break at Cupcake Central, a beauty break at Mecca Maxima or an indulgent time-out at Self Centred Medi Spa.The buzz continues after dark, whether you are lurking in Knox Lane with its graffiti by Melbourne's infamous DABS and MYLA, or basking beneath a screen in the Hoyts Director's Suite. Spanning two city blocks, the centre boasts several unique architectural features including the giant Marionette Watch hanging in Shot Tower Square, famous for its hourly rendition of the Australian anthem 'Waltzing Matilda'. The square is named after the historic Coops Shot Tower a bullet-making facility built in 1889. Today, the brick shot tower stands proudly in its original place, protected by a modern twist: the magnificent Glass Cone, designed in the '80s by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. While it floods the centre with natural light, the Glass Cone's design also makes it one of Melbourne's most recognisable landmarks.Located atop the City Loop Melbourne Central train station and can be found on the iconic free city circle tram route. Melbourne Central boasts 822 car parks making it the perfect base for Melbourne city excursions. The five-star-rated parents' retreat offers a sanctuary for families, while The Little Library free book exchange provide spaces for pause and escape from the city's frenetic buzz.Whatever brings you to Melbourne, be it shopping, exploring with the kids, lunch, brunch or simply an unexpected adventure, it is all waiting between Lonsdale and La Trobe.

“Great place to sit down and rest!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

Street with a few shops and events going on at the same time.
A great place to sit down and watch professional buskers along the street.
Great entertainment with big shops left and right.
Also great to watch the trams passing by.
I say there for an hour while the wife was shopping and never felt bored. Free entertainment all over the place.
Watch people from all walls of life walking to shop, eat or transit to and from work.

“Boring”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

The best thing about the Mall are the buskers. You can find the shops anywhere in the suburbs all the same chain stores and fast food outlets.

“Not enough street performers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

For me at least! I love whittling away time watching and listening to buskers (street performers), with some delivering some sensational acts. The Only real issue I have with the Bourke Street Mall is the tram. Seems strange to have such a neat area destroyed by rattlers. The chance of carnage is always there, that's for sure. Irrespective, the combination of great shopping, several nice features and the buskers makes for a bit of fun, entertainment and shopping.

Great place to sit around and listen to the buskers, watch the trams and people go by, or just visit the shops in the area.
