“Avoid the rude local cheap skate filled trams”

I think this service is a fantastic idea for genuine tourists who are genuinely interested in finding out about the city and its attractions. However, I do feel this service should charge a nominal fee for use so that it is not abused by locals who don't want to pay for their quick trips across town. We were on a tram from our hotel to the museum which had been hijacked by locals and the genuine tourists (my family and another one), probably not used to having so little personal space, got frustrated and got off, took out their maps and started walking. Welcome to Melbourne! When the rude, obvious local started abusing people and telling them to squash in so she could get on I queried her about why she would use this service and not pay for her ticket on her myki card. Apparently she had paid but missed her tram. There was a tram right behind us, clearly able to take her to the same place as the city circle tram, if not further, and it was empty. Come on people, it's meant to be a tourist service that highlights the wonderful things Melbourne has to offer but it is being abused by tight @$$ locals and making the experience quite unpleaseant.

“Good service, huge delays”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

I used the City Circle Tram several times and disliked how it used probably the busiest streets in the Melbourne CBD. Although it is a good idea, it is often too packed and the trams are much more infrequent due to the traffic delays. Personally, a Yarra Tram gets you the same distance and to the door of places quicker and isn't significantly expensive. Unfortuantly for my experience, it was not a scenic tour of the city, but more being packed in like a tin of sardines on a old rickety tram, which didn't necessarily go close to main attractions (you still had to walk from most stops quite a fair distance)
