The Shrine of Remembrance is a worthy visit. It was built to honour all the Australians who passed away in the world wars. The shrine was built like a square, with a visitors area at the bottom of the shrine. They are currently building new areas around the shrine as they would like to expand the visitation areas and that would be completed in 2014.
If you go totp the shrine, be sure to go to the roof of the shrine and have a look at all of Melbourne from the top. The view is fantastic. Also a tip for tourist is to visit the shrine at 11am to see the light rest on the word LOVE in the shrine where the phrase 'Greater love hath no man' is etched into stone at the centre of the shrine. There is a memorial service every 30 minutes at the shrine, so if you miss the last one, you only have to wait 30 mins.
Nearby attractions include the botanical gardens, which also run a free tour at 11am.
