“Very good option in melb”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

Visited for a shopping weekend in Melbourne and had a great stay.
The location was great, so close to QV markets and a short stroll to Mall, H&m, QV, Emporium and Lygon St.
The Tram stop was only a few mins away and ta axi stop just across from the adjacent Ibis hotel.

I had a standard queen room which was perfect for me. The kitchenette, microwave and bar fridge was a bonus. I found the cupboards to be well stocked with pots, pans, cutting board, cutlery and crockery etc. so wouldnt be a worry if you wanted to cook and eat in.

As a silver accor member I had free wifi which was easy to connect with pretty good speeds.

All staff i interacted with were professional and friendly! Scott on the front desk was lovely and cheerful. He gave me a good run down on the hotel, bar/dining in hotel, local area etc. so nice to have such a welcoming friendly face after a 4am wake up for an early flight!

Would happily stay here again and would recommend to others for a quick stop over in the cbd.

Room Tip: I was on 11th floor, away from the lift so was quiet

If you are used to the quality level of Mercure Hotels in Europe, don't think you'll get the same experience here. We read the other reviews before selecting this hotel but we are still asking ourselves if the people stayed in the same hotel as we did since we did not have a positive experience and found our room more than basic. Reception is a the street level where you enter through a small entrance, in a small lobby. We arrived quite late, just in time before they would close the reception desk - that's not usual to see a hotel of such a category closing its reception during night but there is apparently a Manager on Duty so they leave a phone there so you can call him. We got to our room on level 9, where the restaurant is also located. One of the cards to be used in the lift to access our level was not working ... so we already struggled with this. Then, when the doors opened, we immediately noticed that a lamp just in front of the lift was not working properly. We walked in a quite dark lobby to reach our room. We booked a twin room with a view on the city - when we discovered the view on the next morning we really wondered was "city view" means for them as the room was overlooking the market. The room is equipped with a kitchenette but there is only 1 pan and 1 sauce pan, 2 forks, 2 knives, 2 glasses, 2 small bowls, a small fridge and a microwave - this is what they call "fully-equipped". Housekeeping needs improvement: lot of dust on the cupboards, bathroom and room cleaned probably very quickly (the sink still had traces of soap each day and the mirror was not cleaned either). I still wonder if the curtains were dirty or if this was their actual colour. The sofa was not clean and we even found a razor blade under the cushion! Only 1 small towel and 2 big one, that's not enough for 2 guests in 1 room. Italian shower, enough pressure for the water, hot water so nothing to complain about. Beds are not really comfortable and small. Hard to sleep as we could hear the neighbour above walk in his room as if there was an elephant walking up there, then people slamming doors at night or speaking loudly (nothing to do with the hotel, it's just the people who are not well-behaving but there are hotels where the doors close more quietly than here)) and also the constant noise of the fridge and of the fan in the bathroom make it difficult to fall asleep. Breakfast is basic but in a nice room but you can ask for omelettes. The buffet is: cereals, fruits, bacon, potatoes, bread, and that's it. The free tram 35 stop is 5-10 minutes away from the hotel. You can take the free hotel shuttle service from the SkyBus if coming from the airport, and also to get back, it stops at the Ibis hotel situated next door. This hotel is certainly not a 4-star hotel and should not be compared to European Mercure Hotels which are of a higher standard. If you like comfort and service, this hotel is certainly not for you.

Dear Londinium,

Thank you for your detailed review and great to hear from a Top Contributor.

We do have a 24-hour reception available with a Night Manager on duty at all times unless they are attending to another guest. Our city view rooms face the iconic QV Markets or the CBD which is a feature of this end of the city and a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

I will follow up with our housekeeping regarding the issues you faced to ensure this does not happen again. I will also be sure to pass your feedback to our Restaurant team regarding breakfast so we can have the best offering for our guests.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and trust you will give us an opportunity to serve us better in the near future.

Regards,
Akshay Deosthali

What a great spot and so close to everything, Very Clean, spacious and well organised Hotel, with Victoria Markets and trams less than a couple of minutes walk. Melbourne Central about 5 minutes away or walk into the main city being less than 10 minutes.
I'd certainly stay here again

I have booked accommodation at the Mercure Therry Street for our international BDM's on several occasions during 2014 and have received excellent, professional service. Our international colleagues who have stayed there remark on the clean, fresh rooms and friendly assistance from Reception and other staff. As travel organiser I value prompt attention to requests, the offer of corporate rates and efficient booking systems. Their recent resolution of an incorrect booking made by me produced an good result for us, minimising inconvenience to our staff member and disruption to a busy schedule. Happy to recommend for both corporate and other visitors.

We were worried when we pulled up, so much construction at the front, not there fault but very un appealing.
The staff were friendly enough, the girl was painfully slow at checking in and literally told us nothing about services, directions etc.
Great location! One minute walk to the tram stop at Vic markets, all trams straight to the CBD.
Room was tidy and clean , shower needed bleaching though, moldy tiles. Nothing luxurious but a nice simple stay that did the job.

Mercure Therry Street has a small check in area when you first arrive but this is only a small part of a great hotel. I stayed on Level 12 in a studio room with a small kitchen. There was a Nespresso machine with lots of coffee and tea pods. The room was comfortable, big enough and had a good view. All of the staff were lovely and very helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent being right next to the Queen Victoria Markets and only a short walk to Lygon Street or the bars and restaurants in the city. Breakfast was not amazing and the breakfast room does not have much atmosphere but you can order breakfast in the room or head out to one of the local cafes at the markets if you wanted to.
The hotel had everything I needed and I will stay there next time I am in Melbourne.

Room Tip: Ask for a south facing room with a view.
