“Cheap and nasty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Partner stayed here for 7 nights for business. Welcome was ordinary, key not ready, ages to do paperwork. He was shown to room 35 which was overlooked by an apartment block 3m away from the window so no privacy. Asked to be changed because of this, begrudgingly was given room 50, which had a more pleasant outlook over rooftops. However the room was small, had only a tiny CRT TV, and minimal tired furniture. The whole place needed a good paint. Hairs were found in the shower cubicle and the handbasin, and the bathroom window was held in place with a few nails. The bed seemed to be clean and the linen was fine. Although a microwave is provided it was putrid and it had to be cleaned before it could be used. Basic coffee, tea and milk provided. Be very careful if you go outside for a breath of air or to the smoking area as the office maintains extremely random hours and you can easily be locked out if you don't remember your door code. Overall this place is extremely tired, but if you can put up with the negatives it is very cheap for being so close to Melbourne CBD and could be a lot better if the owners put in a bit more effort.

Room Tip: Get a room on the right hand side (facing the front) as rooms on the left hand side are overlooked b...

2 nights here was enough! Cheap enough as it includes parking (not big enough for a Pajero however, it was a tight squeeze, couldn't get into the car once parked, had to wait for someone to move their car. We had front room overlooking street and tennis courts, we thought it was great... we were wrong. It wasn't the street noise, that is to be expected and doesn't ever bother us, it was the fact that we were right on the stairwell which is not carpeted.. Well firstly, high heels should be banned, noisy bloody things and people who talk at the top of their voices are as rude as can be! This is not the accommodations fault, but carpet on the stairs may help. Then at 8am the ungodly noises coming from below, it was the coffee shop opening and setting up a big umbrella! Thought it was a bloody earthquake. Luckily we are not ones for sleeping in. We hung our towels up so we could re-use and help the environment. I didn't think this then meant that the room didn't get made up. It was funny, looked like a 3 year old pulled the doona up and left. That's it!!! Bed comfy enough and pillows ok too. We didnt spend much time in the room luckily..

stayed here for 2 nights in late January 2012, a colleague from my office booked me here simply because all other hotels were full due to Australian Open finale, so she had no other choice. from the website it appears like serviced apartment, but once you step inside, it's more like students dormitory. all appliances in the so called kitchen were filthy, carpet has so many stain spots, the furniture and the bed were all dusty. thankfully the bath room was ok and the hot water run well. with the price of AUD 150/night this hotel is definitely overpriced. even though its location is not too far from Melbourne CBD and nearby tram station, I would prefer other hotel next time I visit Melbourne.

Room Tip: get the room on the back side, it's quieter there.

we recently stayed for one night in these filthy and run down rooms, if they had not of had my credit card details I would have never walked through the front door The entire place is a disgace, it is filthy and the room stunk so much that we had to sleep with the windows open to try to get rid of the stench. and being may it was a tad chilly. The only positive I have is the location as we were there for footy, close to MCG, I know it was only $110.00 but for a few extra bucks stay somewhere else

I stayed here 6 years ago & thought it would be the ideal place to stay again.. it has gone down hill badly & urge you not to stay here. We were booked in for 5 nights however checked out a day early.. the last straw was coming back to room and needing to kill another 2 cockraoches, totalling 6 since we'd checked in. Staff must know its bad as when i requested my refund for the night we werent going to stay there was no arguements however no apologies either!

Rooms also dont have a solid door so can hear everything!! Bathroom & toilets not clean. It was only on 4th day that our towels were taken & changed - no vacuuming or bed making at this stage either so not sure what serviced meant?!?!

I have stayed in backpackers cleaner than this.. i know you get what you pay for on a budget but this is a rip off at 100 a night.. do yourself a favour & just pay an extra 20 to 30 a night and stay elsewhere!!!

My sister booked in to a one bedroom apartment over Easter for 4 nights. On check-in, there was no TV (Foxtel was one of the selling points), the carpet was dirty, the walls were marked, the surfaces of the tables and kitchen counter were grimy - clearly never cleaned and there were dead bugs in the bath!
Staff finished early on Easter Friday so she couldn't complain about the dirty room or the TV until the next morning. Three little women carried up a TV and "cleaned" the bath (by removing the bugs). My sister demanded cleaning products from the staff to clean the bath herself - and they actually gave it to her rather than cleaning it themselves!
There was no sound of a vacuum cleaner over the four days she stayed there.
The staff are uninterested and unhelpful. The owner obviously has no pride in their establishment at all.
There are many other hotels and services apartments nearby - stay there!

Room Tip: I was told by the cafe staff nextdoor that half the rooms were renovated (what was probably used for...

Probably one of the least likeable places I have staying in years. Corridors and public areas unclean & smelly, rubbish in car park, overflowing ashtray near back door. The whole property is generally unkempt, in poor condition and run down.

I asked for a room away from traffic noise bit was given one at the front of the property. This room was simply awful - old battered furniture, disgusting & old kitchen cupboards, bathroom old with mould. Poor lighting - dingy. You cant keep the curtains open as there are driveways on both sides of the building. Stove top had obviously suffered a fire as both switches were melted. Walls needed a paint.

However the aircon didnt work so I was moved to Room 15 at the rear of the property. Quiet. This was much more updated than the first room with decent furniture and a flat screen tv. More modern bathroom. Halogen spot lights made it light and bright. Cleaner than first room but not great. Kitchen utensils old and dirty so elected not to cook. Sheets were clean and crisp, pillows appallingly bad and uncomfortable.

In both rooms, the bedroom was in a tiny alcove that didnt have a full height wall to the lounge area. There was barely room to walk down the side of the bed.

However early next morning I discovered that it was next to the laundry. Housemaids made no attempt to be quiet, banging and crashing and having very loud social conversations and calling out to each other. I gave up trying to sleep and went to work! Obviously no respect for guests and the fact they may be sleeping!

Reception staff are very pleasant and helpful.

The location is superb - 10 minutes walk to the CBD, opposite a park, restaurants and a supermarket just up the road. Tram just around the corner. "Little Vietnam" 10 minutes walk or a short tram ride.

However whilst it is very cheap, I dont think it represents good value for money. Up the road at the trendy Tribeca apartments, you can get a large, spacious CLEAN and quiet apartments with ultra modern furniture, pool and gym in the complex for $15 per night more. I know where I will stay next time!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road, not that this request may be granted.
