“Convenient and Comfortable ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

If you need a very new and very comfortable room that is close to the Markets and Downtown then this is the place for you. Our view was of the very close office tower next door, so you may wish to choose a Park View instead. The free Gym had brand new equipment. The free Trams are just around the corner.

Beautiful, spacious rooms. Reception staff were helpful. Only thing I didn't like was no room service. A hotel of this standard usually has a room service menu. Other than that, the hotel was clean, easy to get to, and well maintained. Would stay here again.

So glad we booked this hotel on line the night before arrival. i requested a room overlooking the city. we arrived at 10am and were greeted by Mishty and were advised our room was ready...so up we went to room 1314. One of the best rooms as it overlooks Docklands, city buildings and opposite Flagstaff Gardens. No buildings obstructing our view. The room was exceptionally clean, all the kitchen appliances and dinnerware were brand new. The bed was firm and very comfortable, the pillows were unlike i have ever laid my head on: supportive, firm, large and so luxurious!! the bathroom was large, the rainfall shower head was a treat! We had afternoon drinks and nibbles on the balcony watching the sunset. The decor was very modern and the room was bright and airy. All the front desk staff, especially Mishty and Brooke gave us great recommendations on where to eat and places to see. We would stop and chat each morning before heading out and of course fill them in with our daily adventures on our return. we felt welcome, comfortable and safe. The free city circle tram is just at the door of the hotel, the QV markets are one block away and the city is within a 10 minute stroll. The surrounding area is quiet and safe. We did not have any problems with outside noise as other reviewers. Make sure you go to Operator 25 cafe just around the corner of the hotel and have the sago porridge...divine! And dont miss out going to The Mint, across the road for dinner. I would not stay anywhere else, loved it and will recommend it to all my friends. The positive experience made for the best week I have had away for quite some time. Looking forward to another break in Melbourne soon

Room Tip: Ask for rooms overlooking Flagstaff Gardens, you wont go wrong

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Stayed 3 night 3,4,5th october. I think it was a deluxe room looking over the Flagstaff gardens.

Brand new, looked like no one had even stayed in our room before us. King bed extremely comfortable ( none of the dreaded roll to the side!) good lighting, nice balcony, great kitchenette. Very helpful knowledgable staff, we are from Sydney so needed a lot of guidance and they were great.

I would lime to make some comments in regards to some other reviews:

Parking - the parking lot was full so we parked on one just around the corner. On the weekend this was just $5 a day, cant complain about this. We didn't use the one the front desk recommended as it was dearer and further away. This was our choice,as it is a choice all others can also make.

Supermarket - there is as small IGA around the corner, down the road. About a 4 min walk from room to shop. It is not the oaks fault they do not have a shop right next door. Why would people rate a hotel based on this?

Location - not right in cbd, anyone can access google maps and clearly see this before booking. I thought it was nice to be a little away from the madness of the main shopping area. Free tram out the front, and also normal team out front. Train station across the raid, very easy.

Ceiling- someone commented it wasn't finished. This is not true, it is concrete which is very modern at the moment, i liked it as it meant the room was very quiet.

Toilet - yes very close to bed but as i say if you are comfortable enough with a person to share a bed why be embarrassed by normal bodily functions? Just turn the tap on if you are worried.

Our room was down the end of the corridor and was very very quiet. We dint hear another person the whole time, no street noise and you could jot hear the tram bells at all ( which can be annoying every 2 mins).

Overall it was a very nice stay.

we booked a room here two days before arriving and had no time to research hotels so we just went with TA's #1 ranked.

location was quiet good: 5-10 min walk from weekend market and all main shops / cafes and heart of town. there is also free tram right outside the hotel that lets you explore melbourne and a park right below, that being said we were very tired the first night we arrived super late and didnt want to venture far.. and didnt find anything within a 5 min walk to get a decent bite late nite. it was dead.

room: clean, comfy, modern and nice balcony (no view). the guests in the apartments were not your usual hotel tourists though, more like long term or corporate rentals.

staff: i asked a few dozen qs re things to see and they were pretty helpful. there was a bit of confusion about the parking and the timings and how to enter, but it all worked out.

all in all, seemed good for the value. we were there just 2 quick nights so not sure how it compares to all else...

generally speaking - it was my first time in melbourne and i love everything there so my tip is take your time to enjoy. take it all in over a few days at least and def do apollo bay and the apostles! :)

We spent 2 nights here in room 1314 the room was as described with a decent park view.
The staff we friendly and responsive.
Even thought the room was cleaned quite late in the afternoon.
The gym and laundry were quite useful.
The main issue I had was the onsite (rear of the hotel) parking cost was $20/night which seems a bit rich

Room Tip: The free #35 tram on the corner does not start until 10am if you are an early riser

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Oaks on William. I am pleased to read that you found your apartment as described and the views from your room to your liking. Off-site parking is also available within close proximity of the hotel however the on-site fee of $20 per day is very competitive within the CBD area. As always your feedback is most appreciated and I do trust we have the opportunity to welcome you back again in soon.

Me and my wife stayed at the Oaks for a weekend getaway to Melbourne and enjoyed our stay immensely.

The best part of our stay was the staff, they were efficient and helpful whether it was checking in, checking out or leaving our bags with them. They assisted us when we were trying to organise transport back from the airport. Big thank to Brooke I think it was who pointed out some things for us to do on our first day there.

The rooms are large with an awesome kitchenette and fridge, everything was spotlessly clean and there was a great array of Foxtel channels available to us. There is no restaurant or pool or anything like that if you are after that kind of thing but if you are after a self contained place to crash the Oaks is great. Its not in the very centre of Melbourne but there is a tram stop outside the door and its not a huge walk to the major attractions or shopping. Do not expect any kind of a view though, not that we expected to have a towering view over Melbourne but we were just overlooking an alleyway and an abandoned office block.

The hotel is modern with a nice fashionable decor and a very new feel. It doesn't feel ultra high end (ie 5 star) in build but its certainly modern and comfortable.

The only downsides were a lack of unlimited free wifi, I believe it was only available for 30mins per day without payment. The only other somewhat negative comment is possibly a bit harsh on the hotel but we were in Melbourne when there were some very high winds around and being on the 16th floor and with the empty office block next door we had some difficulty sleeping as the room and windows shook all night due to the fact the alleyway formed something of a wind tunnel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Flagstaff Gardens side of the hotel would be much nicer in terms of outlook. Staring in...

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay at Oaks on William. I am pleased to read that you and your wife had an enjoyable weekend away. Thank you for your comments regarding our staff and in particular Brooke who you thought was worthy of a special mention. All our apartments are equipped with full kitchen facilities and on your next visit I recommend booking one of studio park apartments which have lovely views overlooking Flagstaff Gardens. I can safely say that the winds have now passed Melbourne after what was one of the windiest months recorded in recent years. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again on your next visit to Melbourne.
