“6 days on the road”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

Hired a car in Melbourne, drove the scenic route down to Apollo bay, amazing sites. Stopped at some great places. The longest tree walk. Saw Koala bears. Beautiful valley waterfall walk. The 12 Apostles. Light house visit and really interesting people to stay with and talk with.

“A truly brilliant part of Australia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

We have travelled the road from Geelong out to the 12 Apostles twice now, and it is truly stunning. The road is reasonably narrow, and winding so you will have to go at a leisurely pace. Lorne is a lovely place to visit, stunning scenery and nice cafes and shops. Kennett River is small but the place to see Koalas. Apollo Bay is quaint....a fishing village with lots of lovely eating places and country style shops. The trip out to the 12 Apostles is fantastic, and the actual place is stunning. Really the whole stretch of road is fabulous....as good as it gets anywhere in the world. The Otway National Park stretches along a lot of the road so the forest is right down to the sea in places. Take you time and enjoy. Accommodation along the way is good. We would suggest two nights, one at Lorne and one at Apollo Bay...use them as bases.

“Must Go”

Awesome trip - great views of the ocean and the forests of Australia. Take the helicopter ride as well - well worth the money spent!

“Heaven on Earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

It's as what the title of my review states: A Heaven on Earth. If you have the choice to drive on your own, please do so. Drive on your own pace along the Great Ocean Road and do detour a little to some small town along the way to experience the local beauty and life.

I definitely recommend you to consider spending at least a night over at Port Campbell or Lorne and splurge a little on the seafood. The fresh catches are spectacular and the cooks are amazing.

If you don't have the flexibility to drive, do catch a tour and I personally recommend Wildlife Tours. They have great guides who will entertain you even through the long ride in the coach. Plus, it's cheap!

If you are driving on your own, do remember to drop by several places along the way such as Maid's Rest for the jungle trekking, Kennett River for wildlife sighting, Port Campbell and Lorne for seafood and possible accommodation and a little shopping, Twelve Apostles boardwalk for of course, the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge for the spectacular and beautiful works of Mother Earth as well as London Bridge.

You must not miss this in your itinerary. Leaving Great Ocean Road out from your itinerary is a folly that you will ABSOLUTELY regret.

“Stunning!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

This stretch of road is extremely popular and well-trodden for a reason; the scenery is stunningly beautiful. Every turn of the road seems to reveal more breathtaking views. Our favourite stops were: Torquay (had a great market on), Apollo Bay (nice town), Lorne (views from lookout), Kennett River (koalas), Loch Ard Gorge (beautiful), Twelve Apostles (busy but still stunning) and Cape Otway (koalas).
