The thing I love about Melbourne is stumbling across yet another cafe that presents modestly with cool understated decor (I love the lighting using recycled kitchen strainers as lampshades), and then you are stunned by amazing food, coffee and service - all done effortlessly (but they are really working hard I am sure).
They make the most delicious feta tart (the delicate crust is worth eating alone without the filling). It was so good I almost forgot my surroundings as I became lost in the flavour. Turns out they bake it fresh on-site every morning.
Staff are attentive without being in your face. When I ordered my espresso I was asked if I wanted their special single origin - so you get to choose your coffee source as well - and it was a top quality extraction with a perfect crema, and a wonderful nutty, caramel flavour.
We dined on one of Melbourne's hottest summer afternoons and there is no air conditioning so it was a bit hot, however, even under oppressive conditions, this place shined.
