5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

After a bad experience with one property I was looking for affordable easy reliable accommodation. Kellie was wonderful to deal with. Information was clear and concise. The appartment was close to everything we wanted. A truly memorable weekend for my daughters birthday surprise. Early check in and late check out just made our time even better. Thanks again kellie!!

Great location, and great value. Tram stop almost at front door, and easy stroll to great choice of restaurants on south wharf, south bank. Riverbank walk was very popular and Federation Square was 15 mins, as was the Arts centre with a great arts/crafts Sunday market. City centre walkable, and tram made that unnecessary. Simple trip to stadium, MCG a little further.
Apartment had everything required. Views good enough and traffic noise not obtrusive. South Melbourne markets 5 mins walk, great produce, great choice, good prices.
Myki card required for public transport.

I was a bit worried about booking the apartment having not been to Melbourne in a long time so it was with much relief when we arrived at Yarra Crest Apartments, 99 Whiteman St. We couldn't fault the apartment. It was clean, nicely decorated, had a huge LCD HD TV (a big plus!) as well as dvd player. The car parking space was secure, large and easy to get in and out of. The view from the apartment was great, overlooking DFO, the convention centre and the highway, all brilliantly lit up at night. I wish I'd figured out the trams earlier in our stay, though. Would have saved a lot of walking (there's a tram stop just up the road from the unit). Location was good though and if my knee hadn't been giving me so much trouble I would have enjoyed walking the 10 minutes into the CBD! The free wi fi was also a big plus as I have a family of tech heads. Ben, the concierge, met us on arrival and did warm handover of keys and info. The only thing I had a problem with was having to move the car for one day to allow for the car park to be steam cleaned. I noticed when I bought the car back that no-one else had moved and the floor still had oil spots so don't know what the story was there. All up, though, very good value for money for the middle of the city and an excellent place to stay. We'll be back!

We stayed at the Yarra Crest Apartments at 99 Whiteman Street and had a good stay.
The outstanding point is the location. It is across the road from the Colonial Tramcar restaurant that we needed to be near and around the corner from the Convention Centre which we were also attending.
There is an ALDI store on the corner of the street albeit a little pricey, however I wasn't sure if that is just a Melbourne thing or just this particular store. An example would be.. a bottle of milk in Sydney is $3.99 here for the same thing it was $4.50 and there condiments and chocolates were similarly overpriced but the store is very convenient.
Upon arriving we were met by the Concierge Ben who was helpful and showed us around the room and spoke of local events that were on in Melbourne at the time of our stay. One point we should have asked him but didn't think we would have to is HOW DO YOU WORK THE SHOWER?
There is one lever that works both the bath and the shower. You must pull the little pull lever under the water lever out in order to switch from the bath to the shower. It took about 10 minutes for us to work out how to use it, but once we did it gave a good shower.
The view from the room was great overlooking Crown Casino and the City on one side and water to the far left hand side.
***We paid $280 dollars a night and upon entering the room the floor was marked around the entrance and kitchen and there were scuff marks on the wall in the bedroom with two single beds in it. If you are a light sleeper be warned there is a major arterial highway that is closest to the second bedroom with two singles in it. Although you are 15 floors up you can still hear the drone from the traffic all the time. It didn't worry me as I live on a main road but it is something that should be mentioned in case it may bother someone.
I found a few long hairs on a pillow slip that was left from a previous occupant and just moved them to the side but possibly the cleaner could do with a little extra effort here.
*** They ask you to put a load of washing Towels in the washing machine as you leave which we did and also to have dishes washed and packed away and have all rubbish bins removed from the apartment. This is fine however for the price we felt that should be covered by a cleaner upon you leaving.*** Rubbish removal is an important issue here as no one tells you that the rubbish disposal downstairs you need your swipe card on your room key to get in and access it!! We were leaving the apartment as instructed locked the door behind us leaving the key as per instructions and when we were down stairs we couldn't find the disposal chute and had no swipe key to access it. So If you are thinking the last thing to do is get rid of rubbish, don't do it on your way out leaving the apartments because you wont be able to get in. A lovely lady who lived in the apartments showed us where the bin was and she used her swipe card to open the door and let us get rid of the rubbish. All things you really need to know especially since there is no onsite reception.
Opposite the Convention Centre there is a large food court with nice Chinese food in there and little coffee and cake shop( which have great slices! about $4 quite reasonable per slice) and other cuisines such as Indian, Thai etc .With the Chinese food you could get 2 types of dishes example Chicken in Black Bean and Honey Chicken with rice for $12.80 which was also great.
*** No visit to Melbourne is complete without venturing out on the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant which leaves from the end of your Apartments street. We attended the early dinner service both nights we went on the tram. Great food and great night lights as the tram weaves its way through Melbourne's streets.
***Äll in all It is a safe building with the only way of getting up and down the lift is with your swipe card which makes it secure. It was perfectly located with lovely views. A good place to stay for location and with a similar events would stay again.

Thank you for your review and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. It is obvious from your comments that we need to review how the information in the apartment is displayed, or improve on the information given on check in.
For example - there are rubbish chutes on every floor that do not require a swipe. If you know where the rubbish chutes are, it is very simple to take you rubbish out and put it down the chute. This information is in the manual but perhaps we need it on a display as well.
We no longer require guests to put a load of towels in the washing machine when they are checking out, and it is fine to leave a couple of breakfast dishes drying on the sink. We just ask that guests do not leave the apartment in really dirty condition.
Again, thank you for your review and we hope to see you again next time you visit Melbourne

My family and I were looking for an apartment with everything, and we found it here.We stayed in the Centurion Rooms. Spacious open living apartment, comfortable beds, foxtel, big TV. So close to everything and gorgeous view of the Crown and South Bank.. Night view is amazing. Excellent value for money. Kids enjoyed the swimming pool every day after walking everywhere all day. Only thing you need to bring is yourselves and your clothes. Will definitely be back next year for a longer stay. Thanks guys for providing such great accomodation!

I had a wonderful stay in the apartment. Everything was excellent and wireless is free. Ms Kellie Skinner, the person in charge was very kind and considerate to all my request. It is very close to Crown and there is tram services to the city right in front of the apartment.

This was a family trip for me to Melbourne. I was there for 9 days with my wife and 2 kids (a 4yrs old and a 6yrs old one). The last time I was in Melbourne was 12 years back when I studied at Monash Uni Caulfield Campus. Though I was there in Melbourne for over 3 yrs during my student days , I dint take a chance and did my homework as I do for all trips.

We figured out that we will want to live close to the city so that we had access to shopping, nightlife and choise of resturants. Southbank was our best option. Gem apartments thats basically run by Ms.Killie offered us a 2 bedroom 2 bath fully furnished appartment on the 35th floor overlooking the city @ No1, Freshwater Place,Southbank. We paid 2400AUD for 8 nights stay. This price includes the free secure carparking. We hired a car for the entire stay so we thought this was a added advantage for us .

The apartment on the whole is located in the Heart of Southbank. Just 2 mins walk to CDB, 5 mins walk to Crown Casino and 2 mins to the Euraka Towers shydeck, 5 mins walk to Federation squire and the Flinders street station.

Our apartment was on the 35th floor and the number was 3505. It was great it had the best views of the city and the decor was just posh and I would say equlent to any 5 star hotel room. The kitchen was fully equpped with all the things you can think and ask for to cook. The 2ed bath had the washing machine and the dryer. In all my wife really dint feel the difference it was like a full fleged home for us during out stay there.

They have a lovely indoor heated swiming pool and a huge gym on the 10th floor. If you need the apartment to be cleaned and the lenins changed just inform Killie and she can get it organised for you. There is an charge of 70AUD for the full clean and the compleat towles and lenin change though. But it was done perfectly as we tried that too in the middle of the week.

In all I think it was a great place if you are looking for more space and not a hotel room. We had a great stay and the only letdown was there was no safety lockers in the apartment. So we were carrying our passports and cash all the time. Apart from that I guess there was absolutely nothing that was a minus at all. We will definetly go back there when we are in Melbourne again.
