“A great b&b near the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Paul was very accomodating and friendly when i arrived. The location was handy to the city.
Breakfast was excellent as was the coffee. The actual site is steeped in history - it was an old bakery.

There is a good pub about 5 minutes up the road. I was too late for dinner but people were friendly.

The room does not have an ensuite but your private bathroom was about 2 metres from my door.

If you want a great experience in Melbourne, this is the place to stay. Robinsons in the City is a wonderful B &B, where you can make yourself at home. The larger king room that we had for 4 nights was the perfect size, with room to spare. Although the bathroom is down a very short hall, it worked out perfectly. The bathroom is a good size and the toiletries were great. Paul, our host, is incredible, just like all the reviews stated. He was friendly, knowledgable and went out of his way to be helpful and accommodating. He even got up early to get us breakfast the morning we left early for the airport. The location is great, as long as you like to walk. The free tram is about 4 blocks away; an easy walk. Besides, with all the food you get for breakfast, the walk was necessary so we didn't come home carrying Australia with us! There is a refrigerator that you can use to store items and there is always coffee and tea, in addition to what is in your room. And there is port at night! It was a fabulous experience and we would stay with Paul again. Thanks for a wonderful time.

JimandDonnaJ,

Thank you for the detailed review and choosing to stay at Robinsons last month. You've picked up on the key to Robinsons "where you can make yourself at home" - good location, good breakfast, good room, clean bathroom and good facilities & amenities.

I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and your time in Melbourne.

Cheers, Paul

My husband and I recently stayed 4 nights at Robinson's. Both of us enjoyed our stay very much - very convenient (with the trams and walkable to Queen Vic markets, skybus and free hotel dropoff), wifi, cable TV, splendid breakfast made by Paul, and car parking. The bathrobes were a lovely touch as it was pretty chilly during our stay in Melbourne. Paul was an excellent host, and was helpful to our touristy questions. Rooms were also clean and well stocked with toiletries. Thanks Paul!

Room Tip: Only one room has an ensuite bathroom, so book early to avoid disappointment.

eureka29,

It was lovely to meet you both and I thank you for taking the time to review your 4 night stay at Robinsons. Once again a review that highlights our great location and thoughtful in-room amenities and facilities.

A valid tip as well - as we mention continuously in all on-line text - 5 rooms each have their own separate private bathroom and the Executive King Room is an ensuite bathroom.

Cheers, Paul.

With the free city tram just a few minutes away or just stroll down to Flagstaff Gardens to the markets, Robinsons in the City is just the place you want to go to with little noise, free WiFi and cable TV. Paul, the host , was very helpful to any touristy questions and made you feel really at home. Free Breakfast was excellent and too many to choose from. Bed was so relaxing after a long tiring day of sightseeing around Melbourne. For a very budget amount, this place is definitely more than its worth. From tripadvisor reviews, I can see why this BnB is easily number 1 This place is very hard to beat from the cozy structure, great food, relaxing bed and especially to the great host. Highly Recommend

jayblue1421,

Thank you for your high praise and recommendation. The title of your review is the essence of what we try and achieve with Robinsons - the feel and hospitality of a countryside B&B and the location of an urban property. An "Urban B&B" if you like!

You've also mentioned another of our great features - the price inclusions: comfortable room, Wi-Fi, Satellite TV and breakfast. All can be additional charges at inner city chain hotels.

I hope to see you again when you are next in Melbourne.

Cheers, Paul.

Me and my partner have stayed at many hotels in the city before but nothing compares to Robinson's.

The location is perfect. Just a quick walk around to Etihad Stadium, Docklads and Southern Cross Statition and especially for us (seeing a band play on the night), a 2 minute walk from Festival Hall. So close to the city but just without the loud noise of inner city Melbourne.

The host Paul is absoultely fantastic. His friendly and helping attitude really makes you feel welcome before you even walk in. The farmhouse breakfast is amazing, again credit to Paul for a delicious breakfast.

The room was huge. Comfortbale king size bed and very clean. The sperate bathroom down the hall was really nice and clean as well. Great facilities.

I highly recommend Robinson's to everyone wanted a outer suburb feel stay, within the city.

Thanks so much Paul, definitely will stay again!

Thank you for the great recommendation via your online review. You have made mention of a number of our key features - one of which is location and ease of access to transport and local attractions.

It was great to meet you both and I look forward to welcoming you back to Robinsons on your next visit to Melbourne.

My husband and I hate international hotels and we always try to find bed & breakfast or cozy and intimate solutions. In Melbourbe CBD is almost impossible to find something like this being full of international hotels.
Also in addition, we noticed that the CBD is very touristy and not that nice to sleep there. Souvenir stores, big chain fast food etc. That's why we decided to try Robinson in the City.
It is just few block away from the main downtown, very close to Queen Victoria Market and Flagstagg Gardens.
The B&B is located in the corner of King Street and is a red brickstone building of 3 storeys.
When you get in, you find a nice and warm living room where you can watch TV or read a book and a little kitchen where you can cook your own food and enjoy complimentary tea, coffee, beer and water. Furnitures and kitchenware are brand new, clean and well organized.
The rooms are nice and simple with comfy beds and a spacious closet. Everyone has its own bathroom but just few of them have it ensuite. Usually they are outside your room just on the corridor. Bathrooms are not shared with other guests but only yours. Rooms and respective bathroom have the door of the same color. At the beginning I was scared about it, but actually it's exactly same as at home! Bathrooms are new with modern showers and complimentary shampoo.
Breakfast is served in a big room, formerly a bakery, in red brickstone with beautiful wooden furnitures. You can see the old brickoven formerly used in the bakery. There is a big table where you have breakfast together with the other guests. You have a big selection of yogurts, fruits and cereals, plus a cooked dish. We had the scrambled eggs and the pancakes and were absolutely delicious and fresh.
The staff was friendly and helpful. We were looking for a day tour to 12 apostles and the lady was so nice and helped me to reserve the tour. Available in the small kitchen there are city maps, activities, walking trails and day tours.
Two block away from the B&B there is a shopping complex with a supermarket in case you want eat ensuite. From that location we were able to reach every part of the city, from Southbank and the Gardens, until downtown and Carlon.
I absolutely recommend this place. Location, nice staff, cozy atmosphere.

EuDiMu, That is an extensive review of our facilities and services. Thank you very much for taking the time to write it. You've made mention of the separate private bathroom that each of the queen, deluxe king and superior king rooms have - and you've made a great point - it is "exactly same as at home!". So it is nothing to be scared of.

There are two small clarifications I need to make for other TripAdvisor review readers; 1.our location - we are not on King Street, we are on the corner of Spencer Street and Batman Street. 2. our building - is a two storey building not three.

Thank you for uploading an array of great images as well.

Cheers, Paul.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Robinsons in the City for 4 nights and had an enjoyable stay. We booked a stay here after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not left disappointed. I booked the spacious king room for 4 nights and any stay over 4 nights qualifies you for a discount. Wow, the room really is spacious and is the biggest I have experienced when staying in a B&B. The bed was lovely and comfortable and we did not experience any outside noise, so we were able to have a wonderful sleep each night. The bottles of water were a lovely touch and we also made the most of the Tea/Coffee making facilities in our room too. The bathroom was across the hall from our room and this did not cause us any problems.
Breakfast was delicious and the hot meals were cooked to order for you from Pauls menu. I would definitely recommend the pancakes and the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.
Paul was extremely accomodating as a host. We thought we would have to forfeit breakfast one morning as we had an early start due to having booked a tour of the Great Ocean Road. Paul kindly allowed us to have breakfast earlier than normally scheduled and for which we were very grateful. Obviously being a local, Paul is knowledgeable about the local area and has plenty of ideas as to what you can do in the local area. He can provide you with a map of Melbourne and there are also leaflets available on things to do in Melbourne. We particularly liked his suggestion on visiting Melbournes Night Market and I can confirm this is definitely worth a visit. You can easily spend a couple of hours wandering around the various food and craft stalls and is a pleasant way to spend an evening.
I would just like to end my review by saying, don’t let the fact that Robinsons is not situated right in the centre of Melbourne, put you off. Robinsons is a 3 minute walk away from Southern Cross Station and the Skybus Airport Shuttle Bus offers a Hotel transfer to the B&B. Although, to be honest, it is just as easy to walk to the B&B from Southern Cross but the Hotel Transfer service is useful if you don’t know where to go. A tram stop is also nearby if you don’t fancy walking.

Room Tip: Spacious King room really is spacious!

Smileyglobetrotter, WOW, WOW, WOW. What a fantastic and extensive review of your four night stay at RITC earlier this year. Once again your review, like others before, has picked up all the key features of why you would choose a B&B in many places around the world. Personalised service and local knowledge being chief amongst them. I hope the UK comes out of its clod snap soon. Once again, many thanks for the great review. Cheers, Paul.
