“Excellent hotel and stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2011

My wife and I staid 3 nights in this hotel. We chose it because the price and the disponibilty in Melbourne which was difficult. We had an extremely good surprise. The building is very charming and you don't go to such hotel to find the same cold athmosphere you cand find in equipped flats. The staf was more than excellent and so helpful.
The district of ST Kilda is very nice and when you explore it you find wonderful places to walk. South Yarra is 10 minutes walking through a nice park. The hotel is perfectly connected with the tramway taking you to the city center in 10 minutes for a cheap day pass.

We stayed here for the tennis. After having the worst long haul flight (qantas) we were so glad we had booked this place. Simply because it was so welcoming and felt homely. Beautiful decor overall. Our room was on the small side but very comfortable and clean. Staff were so friendly. Think I have found the perfect place for when I am in Melbourne.

What a charming hotel. Beyond my expectations and a lovely place to rest my head after having a fabulous time in the city of Melbourne. Appreciate the old world charm with tidy modern amenities. Bed and pillows were cosy and thoroughly enjoyed having a cup of tea with the complimentary shortbread :)

Look forward to being welcomed that much again soon.

What a nice change from staying in a concrete tower block. Hotel is small and has bags of character.
Staff are really friendly, and really are available 24 hours.
Rooms are a little on the small side, but beds are comfy, satelite TV works perfectly, and awesome high ceilings mean that they feel cramped.
Verry happy with my stay.

We recently stayed at The Hotel Charsfield for our first wedding anniversary. We were recommended this hotel by friends of ours who have also stayed. It was just beautiful. The hotel is a Victorian style building and is situated on St Kilda Road. The location is great...easily accessible from the city centre or St Kilda by tram. Carparking is free on St Kilda Road over weekends, however the hotel does have secure parking. From the time we walked in the door to the time we left, we felt very welcome and looked after. The reception staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We booked a Premier Room and upon entering our room, we were overwhelmed to see such a lovely room, with high ceilings and marble barthroom with a very large shower rose! And we received a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolates with a personalised letter wishing us a happy anniversary, which was a lovely touch. We dined in the restaurant for dinner, and had three courses at only $39.90 each (why wouldn't you!), or they serve two courses for $29.90 and the wait staff were just as pleasant as the reception staff. We were lucky enough to enjoy a late check out to 12pm and then headed into the city (by tram) for the afternoon before heading home. All in all was a fantastic stay and cannot wait for our next opportunity to stay, we will definately be recommending this hotel to all of our friends and family!

The hotel looks quite nice but it's in the middle of nowhere and they charge $150 for a tiny room with a shower that doesn't work properly. They also make you feel like there is going to be a gym but then you get there and find out the gym is external. They have an incomplete chess set and we had to carry our bags up the stairs. On a rainy day we asked to borrow an umbrella but what they gave us was broken and they didn't have another one.

We stayed at the Charsfield for two nights and paid on average 243 AUD (higher rate was due to the Melbourne Cup weekend). We choosed not to book a Standard Room and paid a little extra for a Deluxe room which was advertised as a "Beautifully appointed room" on their webpage. The hotel is a nice, charming building from the outside, the room however was very, very disappointing!!! The size of the room was good, but there was almost no daylight coming through the window. Less than two meters from the window was the wall to the next building and you could hardly see any sky. The bathroom was so narrow that sitting on the toilet you could rest your head on the opposite wall. On our last night we were woken up at 5 am from water dripping. First I thought it was rain dripping outside, but it was so noisy that I switched on the light to check. Water was dripping from the ceiling inside the room on the desk where we were charging our phones, ipad etc. As everything was wet and still plugged in we immediately moved the desk away and carefully unplugged everything. I think I don’t have to mention how dangerous that was! We moved the baby cot further away and of course our baby woke up as well. After drying all electronic devices the dripping stopped and as we didn’t want to get dressed in the middle of the night and were hoping to get the baby back to sleep as soon as possible, we waited to complain on check out a few hours later. We called the receptionist who first of all blamed us that we didn’t call him in the night. He tried to be helpful, but as we said that we were not willing to pay the full amount for that last night he said that this would be management decision. I wrote a comment on our bill, explaining the situation and that we are not agreeing to pay the full amount. We were told that somebody would call as back the next day. A week later nobody had called us back. So far I called them three !!! times, first two times being told the manager would call the next day, third time getting the answer that manager is suddenly on holiday. What a lie! Things like the water dripping and choosing a hotel with bad, overpriced rooms can happen, but treating customers like this is just outrageous! Management could have had at least the courtesy to call back – poor behavior! Can’t recommend this hotel – stay somewhere else!!
