“What an Apartment!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

We stayed here just for one night, with a very late booking, and the two bedroom apartment was stunning.

With very high quality fittings, and exceptional presentation. A good range of kitchen fittings and equipment makes this an ideal base for a family or two couples.

The location is at the back of the hotel, in an old mews building on two floors. The brief look at the public rooms endorsed that this is a well presented quality hotel in a fine old building.

Room Tip: I've no experience of the main Hotel rooms, but the 2 bedroom apartment is quiet and really well...

My husband and I enjoyed quick trip from Hobart for our wedding anniversary. We wanted to stay outside the city to unwind. Lovely character building with beautiful gardens. The staff were very friendly, breakfast in the dining room was well set out. Short tram ride into the city which was convenient. The hotel was very quiet and restful. With billiard room and reading room and seating outside for drinks - nice place to relax

My husband, my elderly mother and I stayed for 2 nights in the 2 bedroom apartment. What a pleasant stay we had! The setup was perfect as my mother could stay on the ground level in comfort with her own ensuite and join us for meals and chats upstairs. It was really spacious. The beds were comfortable, the place was spotless (and that's according to my utterly neat mother) and the kitchen was quite well set up. The staff also kindly gave us a late check-out. The Charsfield is a truly gracious and convenient way to stay in Melbourne. Thank you.

The Charsfield is a beautiful old building in a leafy section of St Kilda Road.

The external gardens are well maintained and the entrance and main hallway are both lovely (giving a really good first impression).

Our room was ok but it did not look like the same amount of love had been put into its layout. It felt a little dared and did not have the same attention to detail that is present in the rest of the hotel. The bathroom is very small.

The hotel is well located in close proximity to a couple of tram stops, giving you easy access to bars and restaurants in Chapel St and central Melbourne. There is a 7/11 and a number of restaurants within walking distance.

It's a nice play to stay for a couple of nights.

Dear Hamish09,

Thank you for taking time to place your informative review on Trip Advisor.

I am glad you enjoyed the beautiful architecture and location of our hotel. We are within close proximity to local bars and restaurants and our friendly staff are always happy to assist with dining options & restaurant reccommendations.

At the hotel we do have a number of different room types, including our Junior Suites (Bedroom with additional lounge room attacheds), our beautiful Premier Rooms which boast our heritage style and Premier Spa Room which has a large balcony overlooking St Kilda Road and large corner spa.

As the hotel was originally built as a private family home, all room configurations are slightly different. Perhaps when booking next time you would like to call us directly and we will be happy to discuss the locations of each different room type to best suit your needs.

Kind regards,

Genevieve

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment which was spacious and nice. The beds were really comfy with quality linen. The single beds were on the top floor and the main bedroom and ensuite is on the ground floor. The apartment was very quiet and the gardens at the front of the hotel were lovely.

Lovely old hotel, short walk to The Alfred Hospital. Lovely library and snooker rooms. Staff very helpful. Didnt eat in as delicious and very reasonably priced Cinnamon's Sri Lankan Restaurant just afew doors along. I got a very cheap deal on internet and so as expected I had a small room but great bed and shower -slept well. Lots of trams outside. Small but adequate gym just with afew pieces of equipment but i always had it all to myself.

An olde worlde hotel, one of Melbourne's oldest buildings, was originally a family mansion house in the early 1890's.
Rooms are spacious with a nice ensuite shower.
Restaurant food is very good, would recommend dinner.
Free Internet is limited in your room, you will soon run out of daily free time just browsing as we did, then you have to pay.
Very clean hotel with professional staff, very quiet at night, no outside noise can be heard.
Area is very quiet, situated more in the business district really, right on a main road full of office blocks, the tram stop is a short walk away.
On the whole it was a pleasant stay.
