My wife and I stayed at The Charsfield for 4 nights whilst visiting Melbourne. The Hotel has Charm and Charisma in abundance.
Situated directly on the St Kilda Road, which gives you perfect access to all the tourist sights of Melbourne via the local tram stop which is only 2 minutes from the Hotel. However whilst the main attraction is the city area, if you have time, take the tram in the opposite direction to St Kilda itself. This small town gives you a very good feel for Australian suburban life. The hotel rooms are more than adequate in size, furnished with a good size comfortable bed and well kitted out shower room. We found both receptionist's to be very helpful providing advice regarding all local sites as well as information regarding the surrounding district. The Hotel food was of a high standard with a good choice of local delights. Without doubt we would recommend this hotel to people who prefer the quaint and quieter side of life.

  • Liked — Oused charm for all four corners
  • Disliked — Nothing the Hotel ticked all the right boxes

Charming little 'boutique' hotel. Loved the billiards room and the old-style reading room. The accomodation was neat and tidy and spacious enough for the price range. A good location for a tourist in Melbourne - although there isn't much happening within walking distance (aside from the Belgian Beer bar) it's a short tram ride from the city, St Kilda and Prahran. Very impressed with the value.

We had a awesome stay in this hotel, the service was great with really nice reception staff that would do anything you asked.

The room we had was a junior suite as I had booked it last minute and was all that was left, so was a little more expensive. But if I had the choice again, from the other rooms we sneaked a look at I would just go for the basic room as they are a but more spacious, the suite was quite nice but you get a small bedroom and a small sitting room, so the whole thing seams a bit cramped.

But the highlight for us was the resturant!! It was almost a silver service resturant with beautiful food and all for just $30 for two courses or $40 for three, a bargin for this quality of food.

Other good things were ease of parking right on St kilda parade and on weekends no parking restrictions or fees. And you could, not that we did, jump straight on a tram and be in the city in ten minutes or less. They also have free internet in the library and free DVD, books etc to use while staying.

Overall a great experience and I definately would go back there again.

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and requested a quiet room. I found this 'deluxe' room comfortable though was woken up by vehicles entering the office carpark next door from six thirty in the morning. The other problem issue was a tv that had only a ghost image and very poor sound. The staff tried to assist but after three days I still had the same television. The billiards room is a plus though St Kilda Road is an office strip and not convenient for restaurants after dark. Finally, while most of the staff were agreeable I found the manager (on the morning of my departure) had a most imperious and surly attitude. The original booking had been made in my partner's name and I wished to pay the bill with my own credit card. This became the source of much tension for this woman and while I was civil and polite and even apologised for causing her stress she continued to give me a difficult time. I am well travelled and have never experienced such hostility. As this woman is the General Manager of the establishment, it is not easy to make an 'official' complaint.

We really enjoyed our time at this hotel. The grounds were beautiful, the staff was very attentive, the rooms were big and clean and the rate per night was cheaper than almost all the hotels in the city. The hotel is a historical house which added a lot of charm to the trip. It was located right outside a tram stop and from there was only a 5-7 minute ride into the city. The hotel provided free high-speed wireless internet, which a lot of other hotels in Melbourne wanted to charge us extra for. We would recommend this to our friends and go back if we are in Melbourne again.
