This was the first stop of my east coast tour. The hostel is really easy to get to from the airport on the airport shuttle. It's located next to Flinders Street station so it's a perfect base for all the city centre attractions including lots of lovely coffee shops and restaurants in the laneways.

The hostel is pretty big but I quite liked that as I met lots of people but if you prefer a smaller more intimate hostel then this might not be the place for you. There is also a bar in the basement which is pretty cool, serves cheap drinks and one night when I was there a band played - I think there are events most evenings.

I stayed in a 4 bed mixed dorm which was spacious, modern and clean.

No complaints about this place!

Easy to get to perfect location to walk the cOoL streets of Melbourne love this city it was great getting lost in all the streets lots to see! Helpful staff always upbeat and ready to help. I think it's worth paying a bit more for 4 bed dorm, really large kitchen area and nice TV lounge and actual bar downstairs it nice too ! I really like this hostel

United Backpackers is a great hostel overall. Perfect location, right by Flinders Street Station and Federation Square. Walking distance to the State Library of Victoria, the Queen Victoria Markets, Eureka Skydeck 88, the Royal Botanical Gardens, the sports stadiums, alleyways with graffiti art (Hosier Lane, AC/DC Lane, Union Lane), and public transportation options. Huge variety of restaurants and cafes, as well as supermarkets nearby. The hostel itself is in good shape. Clean, wifi actually works (only in designated areas though, not in rooms), good sized lockers in the dorm rooms. Seemed like they had a good amount of social/tourist events. I went to a free wine and cheese tasting and met heaps of people. Staff was really helpful. Not a huge deal, but they don't allow BYO alcohol.

They deserve a 5 star ... But some bad luck I was there when wifi wasn't working well so fair is fair ... 4 star because the hostel is awesome in every way and when Wifi is working 5 stars ! Clean place, tv room, fantastic equipped kitchen, perfect location , funny and beautiful staff, lounge room, bar in basement ... Just perfect ! Btw they listen to your remarks to become even better ! Thats what I like ! They are fixing the wifi as we speak ! Next time in Melbourne a no brainer for me, I will stay here again and again !

This hostel has very good location, very convenient to see the Melbourne’s central sightings and do your daily grocerty or get a cup of coffee nearby. The room is clean and quiet, the kitchen has all the facilities that you can cook whatever you want. Overall this is a great place to stay!

My boyfriend and I stayed on a Saturday and Sunday in May and really enjoyed our stay. Location couldn't be better - a short walk to lots of shops and lane way cafes, restaurants, Federation square and access to trains and trams just out the door. Staff are awesome - Steve (I think) the "ginger whinger" in particular, who did not hesitate to act as plumber when I dropped my ring down the sink in the bathroom (THANK YOU!). Kitchen is clean, but due to many guests not a lot of fridge room. Space in the dorm rooms is very limited. Bathrooms clean. I didn't like that our room didn't have windows to outside but probably for the best to block out street noise. Lounge is cozy, decent book exchange which I appreciate! Not a big fan of the bar area but drinks are well priced. Hostel caters mostly to young people (fine by us). Overall great experience, would definitely stay again!

Hey there!

Thanks for taking the time to leave your awesome feedback. We really appreciate it!

We reckon we have the best staff in the business! I will certainly be passing on your thanks to the Ginger Ninja (or Whinger - it depends on the day :0 ) - we think he's pretty rad too.

We have variety of rooms available - including our internal dorms on the 3rd floor, yep no windows (we make sure this is clearly advertised on all booking sites), but certainly a little quieter and darker (sometimes a good thing in a hostel eh?).

We hope to see you back again one day soon,

Happy Travels
