“Cook's Cottage”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Visited over 40 years ago and loved it then. Visited in May 2013 and once again loved it. Staff were excellent and very knowledgeable but surprised I learned all about Captain Cook and his voyages in primary school (we need to teach our kids this stuff!!!). Only drawback was a coach load of people arrived and, of course, the cottage is not big enough for more than a handful of people at a time. Families need to ensure their children behave and not run around. Lovely that we can still see things that are so old and have a relevance to the European history of our country. Beautiful garden surrounds and other sights nearby.

“An amazing piece of history!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013 via mobile

We visited Capt Cook's cottage on the day a group of 20 or so scouts visited as well & I must say they were very well behaved.

The cottage was unbelievable. The vegetable garden & dress up area was also impressive.

You only need about 30 mins to visit, but it's in the lovely Fitzroy Gardens so enjoy the morning or afternoon also visiting the miniature Tudor village & fairy tree.

“small pocket of history”

Pretty little building with interesting history and lovely garden and vegetable patch, only small so only takes a short time to look around but worth a look.

“Fascinating historic gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Interesting wee journey back in time to see how ordinary working people lived in Britain 200 years ago and even more special to think of Capt Cook visiting this house and telling his parents the tales of his voyages.
