“Apartment-like, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

Features three room apartment-like accommodations, bedroom plus a combo kitchen-dining room-living room. Two closets, kitchen with sink, 2 burner gas top, microwave, refrigerator-freezer, coffee maker, toaster, plates etc., pan and skillet. Bathroom is large, but with a small sink, and includes a washer and dryer. Quiet with windows closed. Great central location, in the Central Business District, easy way to many attractions, restaurants, shops. Breakfast buffet was good.

Family of 4 stayed 3 nights in 2bedroom. Large living area, good kitchen and two bathrooms. Short walk to the mall, tram stop, Flinders Station and Fed Square. Lots of restaurants (inclu Chinatown) and Woolworths walking distance. From 6th floor had views to Southbank and car parks. Would recommend and will stay again.

I booked a one-bedroom apartment for a one-week stay during the Australian Grand Prix. While a little further away from Albert Park than ideal, it's still a great location for CBD-based activities, sight-seeing and dining opportunities.
The apartment was refurbished, specious enough, well-appointed and clean with all the necessities you'd need for basic self-catering. A washer/dryer in the room was a blessing. Beds extremely comfortable and offered great sleep.
The staff have a slight tendency to over-service, but we very helpful and prompt when we needed them.
One critique: the WiFi speeds are hopelessly slow; you'll need to connect on the in-desk LAN.

Stayed here because friends were visiting from Brisbane.
Had the Queen deluxe one bedroom suite.
Positives:
Great position,
Friendly staff
Clean room
Negatives:
A.C.controls too complicated.
Sheets not tucked in.
Lift slow and confusing, went up and down several times before getting to right floor.
Construction noise from next door, not the fault of the hotel.
Would stay again after construction all done!

Dear Jo H,

Thank you for sharing your feedback of your recent stay at Somerset on Elizabeth. We are pleased to read that you found our Guest Service Team friendly and you enjoyed our central location in the heart of Melbourne.

We are disappointed to learn however that not all aspects of your stay met your expectations. Though it is too late for your current stay, we always like to encourage guests to contact our friendly Guest Service Team if you require any assistance during your stay. They would be only too happy to assist you with adjusting the temperature of your apartment, to ensure a more comfortable environment for you.

We apologise you also experienced a disrupted stay due to the construction noise occurring around the property. The Strand Arcade on Elizabeth Street and The Emporium Melbourne
(Ex Myer Department Store) are both currently being redeveloped into first-class shopping destinations, but this regrettably does cause some disturbance in the area.

Thank you Jo H, we apologise again your stay did not meet all your expectations. We hope you can visit us again when the construction works are completed.

Warm regards,

We stay in a lot of great hotels in the city, this hotel was our nightmare. We stayed overnight at this hotel on the weekend. When our car came back the next day from the valet parking we discovered every tyre was flat! After calling the manager after the distressing situation of trying to drive out of Melbourne with four flat tyres and nearly having an accident, all we were told was the car is not there responsibility in their valet parking. There is no video surveillance either. They have not even offered assistance with the ruined car tyres of our new car. All we received was a $35 valet parking refund. Pathetic! Not impressed with management or the hotel in general. Amenities poor and old. Would not recommend!

I really wanted to like this hotel. I travel weekly for business and the apartment I was given was really nice and welcoming. The shower was excellent and so were the facilities like the sauna and jacuzzi.

However, the noise was unbearable. There was a lot of construction and I appreciate that there's nothing the hotel can do. The construction started at 11.30pm and continued till at least 2am. I did call reception to complain and they promptly offered me a room on a higher level and further away from the street. Considering that I called them at 11.30pm and was very grumpy, they were absolutely fantastic and empathetic, which was exactly what you need when a jackhammer is blasting away in your ear.

Once moved to a different room and with a decent pair of earplugs, a good night's sleep was had. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was excellent. Great for business traveller's looking for a home away from home. I only suggest waiting for the construction to end and then taking advantage of this great place.

Room Tip: Stay here after the construction, or if you must stay here, ask specifically for a room away from th...

Thank you for sharing your Somerset on Elizabeth experience with our Trip Advisor community. It is very pleasing to read you enjoyed the convenient range of facilities available at our serviced apartments including our sauna and jacuzzi.

We spent 3 nights in these Melbourne apartments. Even though I had booked for a two bedroom apartment with one double and two singles we were first given one with one double and one king. Easy mistake and they very quickly sorted this out for us. Our second apartment like the first was not very clean; in fact the chair in the living area was so filthy that none of us would sit on it the entire time we were there. The single beds had un-fitted sheets that did not fit the beds and no mattress protectors. The first time I turned over the sheet went with me and I was then on the dirty mattress. The beds were obviously separated from a king to two singles and my bed had a filthy duvet inner folded in half on it with no cover. It was covered in dirty stains and had obviously not been washed for some time. The other single bed had a thin blanket and my friend was cold all three nights we stayed there. The elevators were not working properly so the numbers didn’t correspond with the floors and it was a rough trip up and down. Very disconcerting. We stayed on the tenth floor but it was so noisy you would have been forgiven for thinking you were sleeping on the street. The Apartment could be great as it has all the 'things' you need from a holiday apartment and a great location but is let down by the standard of cleanliness and the unbelievable noise.

Dear malcolm h,
Thank you for your review and for mentioning our great location. I am very sorry to hear you encountered some Housekeeping issues. If you have a moment, I would appreciate if you could let me know your room number so we can address with our Executive Housekeeper. Please email: florence.hairie@the-ascott.com.

Unfortunately the construction noise is beyond our control. Both projects, Emporium and Strand Arcade, are almost complete and are due to open really soon.

Thank you again for your feedback, we certainly look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind Regards,
