“Busy and fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

Had heard this was a popular place and to get there early so we arrived at 5.30 and it was already busy. Managed to get a table and a few minutes after we were seated there was a line of people waiting to get in. The food was beautiful and kept coming. Would definitely try and eat here.

“Great Meals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

I went here twice while I was in Melbourne. The first time was for lunch, second for dinner. Lunch was much better. It is a very loud and lively environment. The menu had lots of options - I felt like everyone in our group had something to fit them. Would definitely go here again.

“Good food with unpretentious portions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

Our experience at Chin Chin was so good that we visited the place twice within a week during our stay in Melbourne.

During our 2 visits there, we had quite a few dishes but what I would recommend for a couple would be the Son-in-law eggs, the chinook salmon and the caramelized sticky pork.

The salmon was especially the star of the place. Tender and soft with extremely well balanced spices. Caramelized sticky pork was tender on the outside and crispy on the outside. Both very well executed dishes. We also tried the Chin Chin pork roll-ups but it was ok to us. Not bad but not great. Depends on individual taste I guess.

Cocktails were also good. We had the Jasmine infused cocktail and glad to say it was better than many we tried in Melbourne.

Wait can be long though but they'll get your number and sms you once your table is ready. Be sure to give it a try and you won't be disappointed

“Brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

This might be my favourite restaurant experience ever. My partner and I were seated immediately (6pm on a Monday) at the kitchen bar. This was great because we watched the chefs prepare food. Man do they work fast. The restaurant was packed, noisy with blaring 80's pop. The waitress was very friendly. We opted for the $66 tasting menu. God it was amazing, but the food just kept on coming until we began to feel almost panic stricken. I have never eaten so much, it's all a blur. Every single thing was exciting, delicious and new.

We staggered out and could hardly walk. I didn't eat for 16 hours after this meal. However, it's not an experience I could do every night, the sensory overload was a bit much to repeat for a few weeks. But a great taste of city living for us NZ country bumpkins.

“Delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

I'm not really a huge fan of Asian food but this was lovely. We did the set menu and it was great. Interesting, well presented and incredibly tasty dishes. Nice wine too. Be prepared to wait though if you go after 6pm. We got there at 7pm and there was a 2 hour wait but they take your mobile number and text you when the table is ready. Worth going, but go and put your name down for a table an hour or so before you actually want to eat. There's a bar downstairs where you can get drinks in the mean time or plenty of bars in the local area.
