“A gr8 find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Hiding down the end of south wharf is a great value for money sushi bar with sakes to die for. The chef is ex nobu, he's designed a gr8 menu that is modern, value and tastes gr8. If staying at the Hilton one can fall in and out of the door into bed......

“Still a favourite...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Have been back to Akachochin 3 times since last Spring, and it still impresses. There has been no variation in the quality of the food or service at all. Consistently good!

“Beyond sushi!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

If you are serious about Japanese food (outside Japan) , visit Akachochin.
Food is yummy and fresh and authentic and beautifully presented , unlike some places where they serve fusion of Japanese /Chinese/ Western. Service was very attentive and dishes were served at the right pace - hopefully it wasnt because we had an early dinner - 6pm, and the restaurant was a little quiet at that time.

“High Quality and good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

I needed a quick lunch in between meetings whilst in Melbourne and walk straight out of the Hilton Southwharf into the delightful Japanese Restaurant. I sat at the Sushi bar and had a plate of really fresh Sashimi consisting of Tuna, Salmon, Prawns and Scallops and followed it up with some Sushi of Crab and also Sea Urchin, all washed down with a couple of glasses of Saki, of which they have a great range.

“Food is ok, but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

We were really looking forward to Akachochin being big fans of Japanese food. Overall, fairly disappointing. The restaurant itself is lovely and the location is nice.

Generally the food was pretty good although the flavours were not superb and the prices are quite steep. However, the biggest let-down for us was that when we ordered a salad, there was a live bug crawling in it! Certainly, they took it away and replaced it fairly quickly but we still had to pay for it. As a suggestion to restaurant owners - if you provide us with this kind of experience, at least don't make us pay for it.
