“Best YHA in Melbourne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

This YHA is awesome. We stayed for 3 nights in a private ensuite room. We bought the $10 big breakfast and it was well worth it! A shirt tram trip to the city centre, walk to Queen Elizabeth markets for shopping. The staff were amazing and ever helpful. Would love to come and stay here again :)

Room Tip: Go for the private ensuite rooms, on the ground floor.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for around 2/3 weeks in total with a 5 day trip to GOR in between. We were also here for the Grand Prix.

I think if your only staying for a few nights it's great - the kitchen is the best I've cone across, always clean, always loads of tea towels and plenty of utensils. It's quiet and the view from the roof is amazing. Other common areas are good too.

Downsides for me were the 8 bee dorm we stayed in was far too small. Only a narrow walk way in between beds so not much room.

Also the lift Is a nightmare! Too slow and it broke down for 2-3 days whilst we were there. Not so bad unless your checking in or out which we were! I had a massive bag and they didn't offer us any help. Good job my boyfriend is strong we were on the 3rd floor.

Other downside is they move you around ALOT to different rooms. We moved 4 times and had to pay $2pm for a locker each day for luggage. At least they had lockers though!

This hostel was well spaced out with good facilities overall. The staff were friendly and the view from the roof is fantastic. I feel the one big thing they need is free WIFI which would improve value for money massively.

Its fairly close to city and only a tram (57) away from most attractions of the city.

Room Tip: Be aware the check in times are quite late but they let you shower etc so its not a big deal

I stayed at the YHA Melbourne Metro for a few nights when I first moved to Melbourne.
The hostel, while a little old, is very clean, and the beds are pretty comfortable for a hostel.
It's close by to a couple of tram stops as well.
That said, it's quite pricey, considering its age, and that it doesn't provide breakfast or anything like that.
If you have to stay in a hostel, I'd recommend it - but I'd look around for apartments, or even hotel deals first, as they might be cheaper.

when ever i was in melbourne I would almost inevidably spend a night ... or few at teh Metro YHA, t was a great place to crash when i travelled the redeye and arrived at 7am, have a shower and sit down and have breakfast.
they used to have a bar which was a gr8 place to meet people and have a cheap drink.
I was REALLY disapointed when i found out that they no longer have the bar. This was always the kicker for me. The Hostel Bar - whenever i went to a YHA to have a drink at the bar.
the Location is still gr8 - walking distance from the CBD. The Staff are friendly
but i dont think i will stay their anymore.

good points: quiet because it's not in the center. Just a 15 min walk from the center and 5min walk form victoria market. Nice staff and very helpfull. Nice view from the rooftop and friendly atmosphere as many people gather up there in the evening. Clean bathroom. And frankly that's all i need: Clean and quiet hostel

bad point: not enough plug in in the room. I was in a 8 female share room and we just had 3 plug in. We should have one plug in close to the light bed so everyone has his own plug in.

I would definetly recommend the Melbourne Metro YHA and while you are in melbourne take advantage to do a great ocean road day tour :) A must seen !!!!

excellent accommodation, clean rooms and very helpful staff. I recommend to go the terrace on top of the building you will have a great view from there. It is a bit outside of city centre and the kitchen is too small for all the people but apart of that I really recommend to stay there.

Room Tip: YHA is the only kind of hostel that I can recommend for Australia (at least for people over 25) clea...
