Solid lodging on the cheap (by Australian standards, anyways). We booked three nights/four days here and almost immediately regretted doing so, thinking it was going to be more "hostel" like and we would be surrounded by both filth and hippies the entire time we were visiting Melbourne. Thankfully, this was not the case at all. Our room was very very well clean upon arrival and every one of the staff members we interacted with were extremely nice and helpful. The location is just west of downtown Melb and it was also located right next to a tram (trolley) stop as well as tons of cafes and even an IGA grocery store. Foxtel, a clean bathroom, etc. Nothing bad to say at all, really. We would definitely recommend the Miami Hotel to anyone.

More like a hostel than hotel but better than the average hostel.
Kitchens not big enough at times - one kitchen per floor (should sacrifice another room for bigger kitchen facilities), Internet quite expensive, cafe had limited opening times, bed comfortable but possibly not too clean, general fittings and furniture need updating as is old and worn.

This is only for the budget conscious. It feels like a backpackers more than a hotel. The rooms are basic but clean and the shared showers were always clean. It is a bit noisy though (the doors are very heavy and loud. The fact that you need to put a deposit down for a remote to your rooms AC is a bit annoying and so is needing a key for the shared bathrooms and showers, but minor issues. The staff are super nice and helpful. And there are some really cool cafes and bars in north Melbourne and the city is a short walk or tram ride away. All in all, a good option for the budget conscious!

I stayed there one week in April 2012. The hotel is in partnership with the shuttle service and if you take the shuttle from the airport, they will take you directly to the hotel (with a little stop, waiting and changing the bus at the Southern Cross station). The first impression was kind of a motel impression. I guess I got the cheapest room available. Quite dark and small. One double bed and some space around it, quite spacious closet, a TV and a fridge. There was a window frame with a mosquito window net in the bathroom, however, without any glass. Sometimes, it was horribly cold in the room although the bathroom door was closed. It wasn't possible to turn on the heating in the room (not in the bathroom though - quite a cold feeling during the morning toilette), I needed to ask for it at the reception. The receptionist were very helpful and nice, though. It was also quite loud in there, I guess the maids were carrying their supplies from a room located opposite to my room and were constantly opening, closing the door, thus producing some noise. On the other hand, they did a great job and the was nice and clean all the time. My negativism might be linked to the particular room I stayed in. The overall impression was positive, though. I did not expect more for the price I paid. And I also did not get more, so don't come there with a high expectation. You might return back positively surprised.
