Owner description: Formerly the State Theatre, the Forum Melbourne first opened in 1929 with the largest seating capacity of any theatre in Australia. Since then the venue has been divided into two separate venues. Downstairs, Forum I is famous for its unique architecture, large stage, mesmerising proscenium and signature cabaret style booths. Upstairs, Forum II is a smaller venue with tiered seating, small stage, surround sound and cinema size screen. Renowned as one of Melbourne’s most unique and best live music venues, the Forum plays host to many bands, singers, comedians and popular festivals every year. When not being used for live music, the venue comes alive as an amazing function space for events such as cocktail parties, launches and fashion events.

“Gangsters Ball”

Totally overrated. A bit disappointing really. Acts were very average, and not really engaging the audience. Overpriced. Glorified strippers really. Forum Theatre itself is magnificent as a venue.

“A Melbourne treasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

A long time since I saw any performance here but I often gaze on the Forum from my hotel room when I visit Melbourne. Always brings back wonderful memories - it is such a treasure.
It does though look better from a distance - when you get close-up you see that it still needs a lot of work to bring it back to its best.

“national; treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

this venue was a cinema and has all the trappings of the roman forum, statues etc. in need of serious paint work outside but inside is well maintained. It is no longer a cinema but a live act venue and as such should be given assistance to keep it live, great acoustics, good bar service and seating at the back is comfortable. worth a visit

Although far from the stage in the balcony, was still a great seat!

“Another interesting theatre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

I remember coming her to see films a long time ago - most recent visit was a theatre tour which was very interesting and informative. Great to see various parts of the theatre that usual theatre goers are not able to see.
