Owner description: Formerly the State Theatre, the Forum Melbourne first opened in 1929 with the largest seating capacity of any theatre in Australia. Since then the venue has been divided into two separate venues. Downstairs, Forum I is famous for its unique architecture, large stage, mesmerising proscenium and signature cabaret style booths. Upstairs, Forum II is a smaller venue with tiered seating, small stage, surround sound and cinema size screen. Renowned as one of Melbourne’s most unique and best live music venues, the Forum plays host to many bands, singers, comedians and popular festivals every year. When not being used for live music, the venue comes alive as an amazing function space for events such as cocktail parties, launches and fashion events.

“Another interesting theatre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

I remember coming her to see films a long time ago - most recent visit was a theatre tour which was very interesting and informative. Great to see various parts of the theatre that usual theatre goers are not able to see.

“A Melbourne Icon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

This impressively maintained building speaks of Melbourne's charming architectural roots. It is such a pretty and wonderful building. I love seeing shows here. It has not lost any charm in my eyes.

“The ceiling says it all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

I love going here for a comedy show or theatre event. I am always distracted by the beauty and character of the theatre - and visitors - you must check out the ceiling!

A great show , the decor gave me the wow am I really sitting here feeling! I recall the interior better than the show we went to see. Suggest that anyone with an interest in old theatres pay a visit the scenary alone is worth it

“Forum Festival!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Visited the Forum twice during the Comedy Festival- absolutely loved it! On the first visit we were upstairs in Forum 2, and on the second we were downstairs. The theatre is a visual feast! Staff were great, really helpful.
