“Great place for lunch in summer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

This place is nice if you want a picnic in the park whilst in the city. You can find some quite locations where you can sit down have some lunch and a bottle or 2 or wine and relax.
It’s a great place to have a break from work during summer, epically if you work around the area.

“Must visit Cook's Cottage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

I walk through here quite often and every time is a treat - they are probably my favourite gardens in Melbourne but part of it is because of Cook's Cottage.
It brings a sense of emotion and history - still can't believe that one man did so much in his life.
What I find fascinating though is the size of the house - it is still small both in overall size and actual height - no such McMansion for the Cook era.
It actually makes you think about life in a different time and how people like Cook with his sense of adventure has shaaped our history and lives.

“Must visit the conservatory”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

These very pleasant gardens at the "top end" of town behind Parliament are a gem, well worth an hour or two of your time. We were there on a Saturday afternoon & it is obviously one of the places people go for wedding photos - I think we saw 5 different wedding groups that afternoon.

The conservatory was particularly impressive with lots of flowers in bloom at this time of year.

Cook's Cottage (fee) is listed as a separate attraction on TA, so I'll review it separately, but is also well worth a visit.

We stopped in for refreshment at the cafe in the park (next to a fairly ordinary model village) before walking down to the Melbourne Cricket Ground & back into town along the river - an excellent way to spend a few leisurely hours on a good day.
