“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights and found the accommodation good. It is basic but if you are not too fussed about that then it's fine as we were out most of the day anyway, we all got a good nights sleep every night there. The only bad thing we found was at night the smoke alarm on the ceiling is located at the foot of the bed flashes quite bright at night. We found the reception staff to be friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet was good. The location is within short walking distance to everything like Southgate shopping centre, Flinders street station, NGV, Federation square etc.

On arriving at Room 417 the key cards provided would not work.Back to Reception where they were checked .A staff member is on the floor above yours and will come and assist you.Back to the room and a staff member came after about ten minutes and opened the door.He said this can happen when someone leaving the room turns a knob. That would have to have been the cleaners then.
On turning on the air conditioner an almighty clatter from the fan.Retrieved staff member from the passage way and he looked at it and said I only change light bulbs but will contact maintenance ,who ,he also thought may have already gone home.Reported the noise etc to Reception This was at about 4.30pm.Coming back to the room that night no change. You could NOT leave this conditioner on with the fan going.
Breakfast was terrible. At 8.15 virtually no fruit left when we arrived.Tinned tomatoes, powdered eggs and very poor everything else. One coffee machine out of order and staff busy cleaning up and not much else
Standards have slipped at this hotel No telling where they are getting their staff but they seeem unprofessional
I would NOT stay at this establishment again
Also the toiletries are cheap and nasty

Room Tip: Until maintenance improves NONE

The hotel is now quite dated, very much in need of a re-furbish. The room was adequate, although the air-con was quite noisy. Bathroom is very basic, as were the toiletries. Lighting in the bathroom is terrible, as it is in most Travelodge rooms. The towels were very thin and old, and no hand towels were provided.

The location is excellent, however, it is reasonably expensive for an average room.

Great hotel right in Souhtbank next to Eureka Skydeck.
I stayed here on the 10/09/12 for 1 week working at the Melbourne convention centre. Great hotel, comfortable with mini kitchen, table etc. Room well appointed but simple. 5 minute walk from Crown Casino. Staff friendly & helpfull. Not 5 star but for what it is, a great place to stay.

Overall- would recommend this hotel based on its central location, ease of registration, Buffett breakfast, and helpful staff.

Travelodge Southbank is convieniently located right next to the Eureka Tower and is within walking distance to the Yarra river, and therefore Flinders Street Station and Federation Square. With stops for the free Melbourne Tourist Shuttle and city circle tram (number 35) close by, access to key CBD points of interest are a cinch (basically, got a overview tour on the shuttle, then got around Melbourne wither walking or by using the free tram).

Booking online was easy and requests were meet.
Room was well suited for us- brothers who were meeting for a couple of days as a catch up, though would also suit business trip or couple. Free wifi access in the lobby for 15min a day was enough to catch up on essential emails and Travelodge had paid options if needed.

We also opted for the buffett breakfast. If Pre-register for it at least the day before, this was AUD$15, though could be booked on the day for $19. Good selection and ran through to 9.30am on most days.

Staff were always helpful, and there was consistency in that the reception staff seemed to be there at all hours (Ann never seemed to go home...)

The location of this hotel is the very best. Situated right on Southbank it gives walking access to the entire Yara river front.
Facilities are pretty basic and internet is chargeable. The staff at the frontdesk are friendly and helpful.
