“Fabulous find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2010

I bought this over the net- having never stayed in Melbourne- and was very impressed with the location especially!
We had a fabulous room that had a balcony looking over Flinders St.
The Gym was well equipped- and everyday I was the only one in there ;)

The hotel was clean in a great location close to everything- and had helpful staff.
The only one thing was that there was a slight smell from the drain in the bathroom.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Melbourne.

Paid over $300 NZD per night for a "Delux" room. The room was dirty - had to ask for the bathroom and grubby hand prints on bedroom wall to be cleaned, asked for another room and was shown an even grubbier room that had holes in the walls!!! Air conditioning did not work, it had to be turned full hot, then full cold to work (of course!!). The hotel was 5 star, which I was amazed at. The Asian manager was rude and told me that the room was their cheapest and we got what we paid for. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I feel we got a good deal for this property as we paid $219 for valet parking, breakfast and the room. The location is fantasic being opposite Flinders Street Station so it is walking distance to alot of things including Southbank.
The room itself was very small but we were only there for one night so that didnt bother us so much. The service was great and they have a pillow menu which is always nice too. Breakfast was as good as any buffet style in the city.
I am not sure if we will stay here again, maybe if they had a good deal and it was only for a night I would consider it.

We stayed over the weekend of the Australian Open (tennis) and the room cost over A$200 a night. This was one of their "upgraded" Commerce rooms and thank goodness for that - the room was TINY, similar to those found in central European cities (Paris, Zurich, etc), as was the bathroom. There was just enough space in the room for the king bed. To walk around the bed we had to place our suitcases on the desk. Internet is not free. Fitout of the room is modern, minimalist, with a small clock/radio/MP3 player on one bedside table (but there was a lot of static when my iPod Touch was slotted in), quality linen throughout.
Tiling in the bathroom is very good, clean decor. However there is no door to the shower, so water sprays everywhere. The shower head is a "monsoon" type, which helps reduce the spray but not enough. There is a single sink which is probably the deepest I've ever encountered. There is NO room to put things around the sink so I had to use a shelf above the mini bar!

BUT.... the airconditioning wasn't working on the first night so the temperature in the room climbed to the high 20s (deg C). An attempt by a staff member only succeeded in shutting off the cold water to the bathroom - not helpful! So, no sleep that first night and the hotel couldn't move us to another room (the hotel was full), with maintenance unavailable until the morning. Fortunately the situation was resolved the next day.

THEN... there was a beeping in the corridor outside, a very loud chirp sound similar to that when a smoke detector is running low on battery power. When alerted, hotel staff were unable to find anything that would be the cause. They offered to move us but the prospect of packing everything up to go to another tiny room just didn't appeal. Amazingly, that beeping noise continued for the rest of our stay, and staff didn't do anything about it.

While the staff were friendly and attempted to be helpful, there are other better value places to stay. I noted that the airlines (Singapore Airlines at least) use the hotel, which means they have a high-volume regular clientele, so probably don't have to focus as much on other customers.

Me and my boyfrind sayed at the rendezvous overnight for a nice getaway. The room was on the small side and the bathroom average but the front desk attendants were fantastic and the valet parking was fantastic. Overall average

We stayed at the Rendezvous Flinders for one night, in a deluxe room. The room itself was tired and run down and there were holes in the roof above the window, perhaps where the curtain rod had previously been . We had a view of an internal courtyard but our window blind wasn't working which was disappointing. I also found it bizarre that the lifts were so small. Overall our stay was very ordinary - there was nothing outstanding in regard to the service or the room. Incidentally we spent the remainder of our time in Melbourne at the Georgian Court Bed and Breakfast (George Street, East Melbourne) that I would rate as far superior in the standard of the rooms and the value for money.

I was very excited to stay at the Rendezvous and it didn't dissapoint.

We stayed in a Commerce room and the only complaint is the bathroom is a bit on the small side. Great bed, great room. We had a view of Flinders Street Station, not very exciting but I didn't plan to spend my stay their looking out the window.

Due to the nature of our travel, we used the valet parking. $30 which is not cheap however we couldn't be bothered with the hassle of finding on street parking until 6pm when the car parking garages had cheaper over night parking. We did find a car park down near the Aquarium that had $10 for 24 hrs parking though, but its a bit of a hike back to the hotel. The valet guys were fantastic and there was a bit of a wait on the car arriving but it is Melbourne.

We had room service breakfast which was better than the last room service breakfast I had at a Crowne Plaza.

Location was great, we caught the city circle tram basically out the front of the building.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would go back again.
