“What a stunning repurposing of a beautiful building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013 via mobile

I was very impressed with the King sized studio I stayed in. With Woolworths just up the street, I could do a small shop and prepare my own meals in the lovely kitchenette. So much space, a bit noisy with street traffic but overall a very lovely and handy place to stay.

Stayed November 2013

Stayed for 4 nights whilst on a conference at the convention centre so the location was fantastic. Plenty of options for dining nearby and easy access to public transport to get you around the city. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, the beds were very comfortable and the bathroom well stocked. Unfortunately, they were the only real positives. The room was hot, even with the air con on the lowest temp the room was still warm and this made it hard to sleep. I would hate to be staying there on a hot day in summer! The trains are pretty noisy, but that's the location so not a huge deal. Our apartment had a kitchen which was very handy, but it would be good to have saucepans to actually cook, as what use are the hot plates with no saucepans or frying pans?? Also, the kettle was full of rust and I had to request a new one (which housekeeping saw to promptly). Paid $35 per day for parking which is ridiculous when you are already paying a decent amount for a room, and one day I went out early in the morning and returned around an hour later, gave my keys to reception, only to see my car still sitting out the front at 4pm the same day (when I was actually paying to have my car in a secure spot)!!
Nice building, but there are nice places for the same price in the same area.

Stayed for 1 night for business, which was a 5 minute walk away.
Check-in area was small and if more than 1 or 2 people come in together it could be a small extra wait. The hotel is located next to a major Melbourne rail terminus - but never heard the trains! I think it is converted from a late 1800's or early 1900's building - so the ceilings and room doors are huge - and i mean huge. it was all very interesting. (I actually think it was an old hotel - the doors were at least 10 feet tall!)
My personal challenge is that my room 445 was a trek and a half! The main corridor must be close to 100 metres long, huge ceilings and doors off each side to rooms. Down a short hall, then the long hall, then another short haul.
No room service during the day (I was looking for a late lunch)
Rooms were tall and split into an upstairs bedroom loft and a down stairs sitting area, kitchen and eating nook. Upstairs was a nice little bathroom and queen sized bed - but no TV
Breakfast was $20 extra on the room bill and was a proper "choose your items" cooked breakfast with OJ and coffee - exactly what was needed.
Checkout was easy, getting a taxi proved a little longer than hoped for but it was peak hour and not the hotels fault.
If I have to go to this business location again - I'll choose this hotel, with a room that isn't so far away from the entrance this time.

PS There is a pool, but I didn't use it

Room Tip: Ask for a room in this time zone :-) (or failing that, one close to reception)
