“Class & Character”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

Beautiful hotel with a fantastic staff. Very personal & friendly, this hotel has much class and the character is very Melbourne. Room contains kitchenette, TV & DVD player, balcony and the beds are extremelly comfortable. Food is lovely, both in the restaurant and room service, nice bar with free jazz band Friday & Saturday nights. Parking is on site and free. Close to Southbank/Casino & a 10/15 min walk into the city allyways for coffee.Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the lift can be a bit noisy but nothing that would particularly bother too much.

If you like old stone buildings ( mid 1800's), then you can't NOT like the Grand. it's part of the old railway office in Spencer St. Breakfast was good but not great. The pool is small, service outside the front desk is friendly but slow due to the sheer size of the of the hotel.
Most corridors have huge ceilings up to 6 meters high, which are old and beautiful unless you like modern in which case I would not recommend the Grand. It's located near Crown Casino and the Exhibition centre but a long walk to my favourite restaurants on the other side of Melbourne, The front desk people were very helpful and friendly and the valet park your car. They let us keep ours at the front for a speedy getaway in the morning which we appreciated. It is our first choice of hotel for any stay if we have business to do at this end Melbourne provided prIces are reasonable.

Outrageously good value when an early-bird sale price and a business trip come together.
Although the Grand is a little out of the way to the city centre (it is within walking distance of the casino and Southbank), it should be experienced.
My upgrades 'one bedroom apartment' was cavernous, and deliberately 'old fashioned' and the upstairs bedroom and ensuite were also in character, although the bath, while expertly restored, had seen better days. The king-size bed was brilliant. Kitchen and living areas downstairs were well equipped, but the airconditioner was quite loud - but I guess it had to be to keep a space as big as some apartments at the correct temperature.
Hotel facilities were excellent and staff were so efficient they were hardly noticed.
I would stay there again if I could but I am unlikely to be able to afford the usual rates.

Room Tip: Loft apartments are not for the mobility impaired

Loved this place! You have to stay here at least once, to experience the grand architecture and the spaciousness of the accommodation. A real treat. Furniture of good quality. To the practicalities - good location, near railway station and a large IGA supermarket one block away. TV in bedroom and lounge (unlike another Docklands apartment hotel where there is only 1). Front desk staff were great. (Restaurant staff a little less so..). Pod coffee machine a bonus. Charges for bottled water and internet a drawback. Could be improved with small touches such as a box of tissues somewhere (searched high and low), cleaning the door handles and the back of the bathroom door which was covered in a layer of dust, grout getting a touch off colour (but not yet grubby).

Ordered wagyu burger from room service. Meat was tasty, but patty covered about 1/3 of the bun. Bun was dry and tasteless. Stuffed mushrooms excellent.

Overall, you will enjoy an overall experience if you stay here. I will definitely stay here from now on. Rates seem to vary according to the week. If you are flexible, it would be good value during the lower priced periods.

Cute and cosy hotel that has everything you need. Fabulous location to Southbank, casino, docklands etc. Room was perfect for our needs, fully equipped kitchen, comfy bed, nice balcony. Swimming pool looked great too. Car parking on premises meant we could get to our bikes for an invigorating bike ride along the Yarra.
In summary, an ideal setting for a romantic weekend with my husband. Staff were friendly and professional.
Got a great deal over the internet.
Looking forward to our next stay when another deal comes up.

Stayed in the Grand just for an overnight stay for a bucks weekend and also visited friends at other times at this lovely place , location is centrally located and the design of this place is amazing very old architecture outside and in fancy red carpets gold silver and everything else involved in making a classical look to the point where taking pics of the corridors looks awesome

Stayed in a 2 bedroom split level room , there were a few problems with this here they are - the 2 single beds were the softest iv slept in by far to the point that once u lay on them u will sink in it to the point that the bed nearly collapses , the beds are wheeled so again everytime you jump in them or move around once sleeping the whole bed moves , the split level looks good and you can see the bottom level which is like a balcony however everytime someone from downstairs or the next room speaks or puts the tv on you can hear everything !!!

We ordered room servce from the restaurant which is 24hrs and ordered the steak - Amazing job with the food average price of a nice restaurant but worht it !
