Claremont, was clean, tidy, friendly, and well worth the money paid. Superb location. Staff were friendly, and accomodating, will be back!

Stayed in a twin room. Pretty basic and the showers/toilets down the hallway. More of a basic backpacker style accommodation. It was however, clean and had what was needed. Breakfast was supplied, which was a continental style breakfast. It sufficed. There is no lift so if you are going to be on the top floor....be prepared to be lugging up your cases (got us fit in no time). The noise however from early morning revellers was a bit of an off-put so there you have it. The location is good, the trams and Sth Yarra train station are a stones throw....as long as you don't expect the Ritz and if your penny poor, then this will not disappoint. What you see is what you get.

Room Tip: If you have a party of more than two, would be pretty cheap if you don't mind bunk bed style acc...

Very clean hostel, free wifi, free breakfast. Rooms could be a little more cosy. Overall we liked our stay here. It's a very nice building with nice hardwood floors, gives it a warm feeling.

After reading other reviews on this site, I can only agree. Very pleasant helpful staff, great ambiance and decor, bathrooms always clean and available, we stayed in winter and the rooms were cosy, so nice to get in after roaming the cold Melbourne streets. Clean linen & towels provided, free 500mb wifi. Free basic breakfast. The location was superb. 2 mins walk to Chappell St. Tram out the front door to the city. 30 second walk to train station. IGA supermarket across the road. The only gripe would be that the rooms are very small. A single bed might fit ok, but the double bed took almost the whole room. We were on the first floor, and the first night it sounded like someone upstairs was practicing their dance routine until 1am, not too loud, but definitely a distraction. Other than that I'd recommend for any traveller on a budget. We'll stay there next time we go to Melbourne.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel might be quieter... our was at the back and mostly very quiet.

I stayed here on two occasions (11 nights in total) whilst travelling in Australia. The best thing about this place is the location in South Yarra - it is a 2 minute walk from Chapel Street - which is well-known as being one of the best shopping streets in Melbourne. It is also only a 2 minute walk to the nearest train station - and it is a short train ride into the city centre. There are plenty of restaurants (including thai, italian, japanese etc) around here as well.

In terms of the rooms, they are adequate and comfortable enough. I never had to queue to use the shared bathrooms. Only ting I would say is that they could have been cleaned more regularly (but I am very very fussy and I still coped!)

The breakfast is ok and includes cereal, toast and fruit. There is a kitchen where you can use microwaves to cook ready meals (we sometimes bought ready meals from the shop across the road). There is a relaxing communal area to sit and eat in.

I thought it was good value for money and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Try and upgrade to a family room if you can (we asked about upgrades and they gave us a family room...

It was january, 38 degrees, 3 floors up, no aircon no lift, no fan, windows dont open.... I had the hottest stay ever at this place. I was on a budget, but should have loosened the purse strings to stay somewhere better. I had to drive to sydney on the last day so I had to leave at 7am. I had next to no sleep that night because i was so fricking hot. Had a shower at 3 to cool down, but that didnt work...

Its close to train and some shops, but I stayed away from the hotel as much a possible...

Great Hostel in fantastic location with friendly staff. We stayed for 7 nights in twin bunk room
The Good
Location between CBD and St Kildas with tram/train stops literally on the doorstep. Lots of restaurants and shopping of Chapel Street a stone throw away.
Very clean & provided all linen (including towels)
Comfy big beds
Good shared bathroom facilities which are cleaned regularly.
Free breakfast until 9:30am and free teas and coffees all day
Great value for money – paid $60/night for bunk room including brekkie for two
Free internet (up to 500MB included with each booking)
Friendly helpful staff who always went out of their way!

The not so good
Rooms are small – which for a city hostel is ok as you tend to only sleep there
Hotel does get lots of school groups ranging from 7-8 year olds to college groups. Generally we found it quiet (we had a room on second floor at back of hostel for most of stay), however our final night (in a different room) was a bit of a nightmare as we had a room in the middle of one school group, and right under a group with younger children who slammed the doors quite loudly at 6am. It was pretty difficult to get access to any bathroom in the morning. Also, the room faced Toorak Road and opposite hotel was construction which finished at 11pm and promptly at 7am. The staff were great and went out to ask them to stop etc, but they only have so much control. Would advise anyone staying here to check whether there are many school groups at the time and request a room slightly further away…
They don’t have full kitchen facilities (do have fridge, microwave, toaster and sandwich press) so can’t cook a meal
There is no lift in the building (not fun with heavy suitcases)

Would I stay again? Definitely!

Room Tip: Rooms on 2nd floor & at the back - not facing Toorak Road/Claremont Street are the best!
