“A Handy Spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

My brother and I stayed at The WIndsor for one night on a visit to see a show at The Princess Theatre and it was lovely.

The Hallways were a little tired in decor but beautiful staircases. The room was lovely, large, clean, smart, and very comfortable beds and heavy curtains great for a good nights sleep.

The area is very handy, minutes from the theatre and a stones throw from the centre of town.

I would definitely stay again and maybe have the High Tea next time which looked very tempting!

Dear Ms U, …Debra,

Great to hear that you and your brother would definitely stay again and consider our ‘legendary’ afternoon tea at that time hopefully in this our 130th Anniversary year.

Sorry to hear that the hallways are not as dazzling as other parts of the hotel and I must admit that whilst all rooms and suites received a facelift last year the hallways have been left until last…..it won’t be long.

Hoping to see you both back soon.

Best wishes,

David

We stayed at the Windsor as we were attending a show at the Princess Theatre and it is only a minute or so walk from the hotel.
We got a fantastic deal for this hotel complete with breakfast. The room was very nice - traditionally decorated with a decent size bathroom. The staff were very friendly and when we told them it was our 40th Wedding Anniversary, sent a card up to us signed by all the staff.
The breakfast was ok, but all the hot dishes had run out when we went to get them and it took up to 15 minutes for them to be replenished, one by one, which was not good.
Valet parking is very expensive at $40 and we had to wait 45 minutes for our car to be delivered back to the hotel. They did apologize for the long delay.
We would stay again if we needed a hotel near the Princess again and if we got a really good deal.

Dear Ward34,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to write to us.

It is fantastic to hear that you enjoyed your stay and I hope that we were the perfect setting to help you celebrate your 40th Wedding Anniversary.

Thank you for letting me know about the delay in retrieving your car as this is far too long. I will be speaking to my team in regards to this in the hope of limiting this in the future. I have also sent to Chris, our Director of Food & Beverage who will look into this with his restaurant team.

Once again thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back when next visiting Melbourne.

As always at your service.

Warm Regards
Nick

We went to The Windsor Hotel for the fourth time for an evening meal and found the same thing....again. It is soooo cold in the restaurant, it is uncomfortable and tends to ruin the evening. The choice on the menu was nothing great, but the hotel itself is lovely. If they would turn the air conditioning down somewhat and expand their menu, they may find their numbers picked up. The quality was nothing more than I would present to my family for a normal mid week evening meal, but with a far greater price tag!! Staff were friendly and attentive.

Room Tip: Check the temperature of the restaurant before you decide to eat there. Also check the dress code of...

Dear Madam,

There is no excuse. I arrived that evening at the restaurant regrettably a little later than you. After the longest hot spell since records began in Melbourne the temperature plummeted from 35 to 14 degrees that evening with our team a little slow to put on the heating. If it is anyone’s fault it is mine. I can only apologise as a coat is not recommended for a great dining experience!

As our new autumn/winter menus are finalised we shall take special attention to your comments which we appreciate. Quality must be beyond compare and value is essential in all that we do.

Hoping to leave you with warmer and more magical memories next time we have the pleasure of your company. As you live in Melbourne please do not hesitate to call me when you are ready to give the restaurant a second chance.

Until that time, we remain,

Yours faithfully,

David

Concierge couldn't be more helpful. Everything taken care of - from valet parking to extra tea bags! Room was easy to get to - beautiful heritage staircase or lifts. Room was tasteful and sufficient for our stay. Coffee/tea making facilities only - what you would expect. Location perfect for a walk down to the Yarra, Federation Square and Southbank. Enjoyed close proximity of shopping, walk through Fitzroy Gardens and easy access to Chinatown.

Dear Janelle T,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for your wonderful review.

Please rest assured I will be sharing your comments with our Concierge team who I know will be very appreciative.

Melbourne has so much to offer and it is great to hear you were able to take advantage of our location at the "Paris" end of the Melbourne CBD and I must agree Chinatown is a must for a relaxing dinner after a day out along the river.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future and until then we do, as always remain at your service.

Our Kindest Regards
Nick

I have always wanted to stay in this hotel after seeing advertisements about it. A special offer through the hotel became available for the time we were to be staying in Melbourne so I took advantage of the deal. It was very special and all we could have hoped for. The service from the minute you step out of your transport at the hotel door, through to reception and beyond was exxceptional. Make no mistakes, this is an old hotel, but everything about it is opulent. Yes the floor boards do squeek a bit, but even with 4 weddings on a Saturday night, our evening was not disturbed. Our room was a superior queen on the second floor. Marble bathroom, walk in robe, and a very comfy bed with pillows to die for. The weekend we spent in Melbourne was very hot, the aircon in the room worked well. The breakfast buffet was fabulous, all the usual cold and hot selections. Our deal came with little extras, like a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival, and some of the "Windsor" tea, this was in our room on arrival, The wine chilling in a silver wine cooler and the tea in a lovely caddy. We arrived early, approx 10.30 am but our room was ready and waiting. All these things made a lovely weekend in fabulous Melbourne!

Room Tip: We had a superior queen, it was not overly large but adequate for 2.

This is a truly wonderful old hotel that sits opposite the parliament building. It would be uncharitable to suggest that it's is characterised by faded glory but if one were to see it in the way one might view a favourite grandparent then faded glory would be fair. Generally staff are friendly and attentive. This trip was spoiled a little by a rather unhelpful member of the reception team who refuses to deal with an account query without input from the duty manager who was not available at the time I checked out. The issue is still not resolved. Keep a close eye on the room rate you are charged on each and every night. Don't assume it will be the rate you were originally offered.

We stayed here as part of my mum's birthday celebrations. The room was really spacious and comfortable and I need to make a special mention of housekeeping who for the first time since staying at practically any hotel, serviced the room in the morning - sometimes it doesn't get serviced until the afternoon and they didn't every miss anything which is rare. The staff in general were fantastic with nothing being too much trouble.

Room Tip: Best not to choose a standard room as they were very small and the one mum and my sister stayed in w...
