“Don't arrive late”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2010

We arrived at Quest at about 1;00am, 10 minutes later we were getting concerned as there was no record of our booking. After finding the reference number and spelling my name 3 times, I pointed out thepaper work on the desk to the employee... We retreated to our Deluxe spa room, ran the bath which too half an hour at least and pressed the jet button to turn on the bubbles and nothing.... My parted went down to the desk and we were asked what we did too it!!!!! We explained that it didnt even turn on, so we couldnt DO anything too it. The next morning when there was a different staff member we explained the aituation to her. She promptly got us to change rooms immediatle. She was very helpful..... Upon checkout we were faced with the original employee who stared at the eftpos machine for 10 minutes and said it doesnt work and he couldnt give us our deposit back, yet he would chase it up........ four days later we cme back through melbourne from new zealand and decided to stop in at Quest to see about the $100 deposit.. They didnt know anything about it and there was no paperwork left in regards to this.....

Upon arriving back in Perth I emailed Quest and the manager nicely decided to offer us a free night....... all well and good if we lived in Melbourne!!!!! I asked if this could be transfered to Perth, I was told no, as they are all individually owned... I emailed back and asked what good the voucher is.......I still am yet to hear a response;.

I recently stayed at Quest on Bourke St with relatives in a two bedroom executive room. The room was great and just what we needed with two bedrooms and two bathrooms! While the bedrooms aren't huge they were certainly comfortable and clean. The master bathroom had a large spa bath which was great to relax in after a hard days shopping! The location of the hotel is really good, only a short walk to the Bourke St Mall and also Regent Theatre if you're catching a show! Having stayed in other similar style hotels with the same group of people I would definitely return to Quest for it's location and rooms.

The apartment staff were very friendly on arrival but we soon found parking would be an issue as there was no hotel parking on site. We parked in an allotment a short walk up the road but it still cost us $25 each time we took the vehicle out, so we tried to limit our use, lucky this was easy because it was in a very convenient location. The rooms were clean but in need of updating. The bathroom is large, with a washing machine and dryer. Decor is quite dated but given the location, we were pleased with how little we could hear from the road.

I booked the Quest on Bourke through the 'Wotif' website for a one week holiday with my partner. Online I was tempted by the promise of a hotel with the luxury of a kitchen as well as a corner spa in the one bedroom executive room.
The other plus was that it was my first time in Melbourne and the Quest was in the centre of the city, close to transport and restaurants.
When we arrived I was happy to see that we were in the centre of everything and the restaurants were open into the early morning.
The receptionists were really helpful and great in giving info and directions.

The room itself was old, and outdated. There was one HUGE airconditioner in the lounge room, which was supposed to cool the bedroom as well which was at the other end of the apartment! Needless to say, it got very stuffy in the room!

My partner even tried to sleep on the couch one night, but was 'attacked' by biting things! He had big red bites all over him were extremely itchy.
I also then felt these biting things on the couch and the bed! The worst was the oversheet blanket which everyone knows that big hotels only clean once in a while!
We eventually complained, with the girls at reception clearing the room out and calling in someone to check out the bed and the couch.
One thing I was not happy with was that we were accused of bringing in 'bed bugs' to the hotel! We arrived from home, as we don't travel much and we certainly do not stay at backpackers or any accom less than 4.5 stars.

We had the option of changing rooms, and we did so straight away. The second room we stayed in was better in that respect, but the bathroom was disgusting! The grout was all mouldy and the floor tiles needed replacement!

All in all, it was a relatively adequate stay, but at $230 per night, I expected a lot more than what I saw!
I would recommend this place for the convienience of one night to stay in the city, but NOT for any longer or for comfort!

I definitely did not regret staying here for 5 nights. Let us start with the rooms: The rooms look a bit dated, but it is most importantly clean. The beds were comfortable and bed linen clean. I guess due to the old architecture, the rooms looked a bit dark and gloomy, but this is offset with adequate warm lighting. Due to the location of the apartment, we didn't get much of a view apart from that of bourke street.

There were sufficient appliances and cutlery in the kitchen to cook up a decent meal. The apartment's washing machine and dryer were of good quality and did the job well. Only gripe is that the dryer does steam drying, so it could dry your clothes abou 80% only, leaving them moist and clammy still. Luckily there was a veranda for us to sun the clothes (but no clothes line or clothes rack). Alternatively, you can spend the time ironing it dry...but that's another chapter to the story.

Service staff was excellent. They definitely did a great job cleaning up the apartment day-to-day. Reception staff was awesome too, going way out to help us find directions, even to the extent of printing out the directions to get to our destinations. The 24-hour reception also gave us some sense of security (on top of the card sensors that control the lift access).

Unfortunately, again due to the location of the apartments, car-parking was a significant gripe. Cars had to be parked at the Secure Parking in the Southern Cross building about 50 metres away. Don't get me wrong, this is a very new and secure parking with the shutters down after a certain time. Access into this car park after-hours is only by card access whether by foot or car). The reserved lots for Quest were also located pretty near the carpark entrance. So what was wrong? The car park's location was a huge inconvenience if you have to tow 5 big luggages for that distance. The apartment's front was occupied by a tram stop, as a result the car cannot be parked up front. I could have parked a bit further up the street for loading if not for the construction going on there at that time that took up the spaces along the street.

Btw, a little gripe, the TV (though a LCD TV) had its volume electronically limited, so it was quite a challenge trying to hear the programmes especially if somebody was using the kitchen. Perhaps the management should look into adjusting the volume a tad higher...

The apartment btw is located about 5 minutes from Chinatown and 10 minutes walking time to the shopping area where Myers and David Jones are located. So it is all in all in an excellent location!

In summary. the apartment is a great place to stay in especially with a family. The apartment was marred by a situation they could not control but made up for it with excellent care by their staff and apartment amenities. Would I still recommend people to stay there? Of course!

Fantastic immaculate apartments damn shame about the Night Club every night till 2am right nect door. Will not stay again because of the noise it comes straight through the walls and windows. The constant vibration and noise kills any chance of sleep.
I have nothing bad to say about the apartments themselves and the service is excellent.

We came to Quest on Bourke from Ballarat to stay 2 nights. We rented a car and wanted to stop in front of the apt to unlod our luggages, but we can't as there is no loading bay and we had to park at Russell St, and then pull our luggages from there. With 12 pp including children, it was rather stressful as we had to cross a busy road too. Moreover, it was peak hours, so lots of cars on the road.

However, once we arrived at Quest, we were warmly welcomed by Maggie at the reception. She was very friendly and helpful. Explained to us where we could park our cars for Avis to pick up the next day, and also patiently helped with online check-in for our flights back home. In fact, everyone at reception was excellent!

We requested for 2 of 2 bedroom apts, with 2 attached bathrooms (only per request as not all 2 bedrooms has 2 bathrooms)
Both of the apts had different layouts. One of the apts only had a toilet and a spa bath/shower room/toilet. However, for the other apt, both had showerooms in them and one of them had spa bath. As we had an extra bed for both apts, one could fit in the singles room while the other could only fit in queen room. One of the singles room had a small walk-in wardrobe. Good for putting luggages. Flat screen TV in living room, but no TV in master room unfortunately. Also no attached bathroom in master. Kitchen looks good enough for doing basic cooking. It was clean and not out dated. Complimentary coffee/tea clearly displayed. Separate room for washer/dryer. However, dryer not working well, and took a long time to dry. In the end, we had to take the clothes out to air dry.

Right in front of the apt is a tram stop, Tram 96 could take you to DFO (10mins), Crown Casino (15mins), St Kilda beach (20mins). Walk to Chinatown is about 2 mins, Target 3mins, Swanston St, less than 5mins. If you want to go to Queen Victoria Market, hop on any tram at apt, change to any tram at Williams St or Elizabeth St. We decided to walk as the weather was nice and cool, about 20-25mins.
