“OK but for the railway”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2010

The apartment is just OK and very small. We booked a 3 bedroom but it was only the size of a 2 bedroom with a tiny living area. Much worse thoughis that this place is right on one of the busiest rail routes in Melbourne. Trains pass around every minute at peak time and then the goods trains roll through in the middle of the night. It was terrible and sleep almost impossible. rest of the place was acceptable and the cleaners did a good job. Only savinging grace is the location being close to city and Toorak Road shopping.

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved every bit of our stay at the manor house! We came over from Perth for a long weekend to visit some friends. We usually always stay in the city but we’d heard South Yarra was a great place to stay, close to lots of restaurants and bars and still very easy to get into the city if you want to. The location was fantastic! We didn’t leave South Yarra the whole weekend. Toorak Road is literally on your doorstep and Chapel Street, which is famous for its shopping and restaurants and bars, was less than a ten minute walk away. One of the staff members was especially helpful and was full of recommendations for great restaurants in the area. I must admit we didn’t spend a lot of time in our apartment but it was comfortable, well equipped and clean, which is all that really mattered to us! The washing machine and dryer also came in handy and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. I would definitely recommend the Manor House to anyone who wants to be close to all the action in one of the best areas of Melbourne.

We stayed here and got a cheap last minute deal - great value for a 2br apartment. I'd say it's more like 4 stars not 4.5 but that didn't bother us. I was impressed to have a large balcony, an indoor pool, secure off street parking for guests and visitors and a well equipped kitchen.

The apartments were quiet even though close to the train line, with comfortable beds and 2 TV's! The staff were helpful and friendly as well as being available 24 hours. They were even happy for us to negotiate a midday checkout at no extra cost.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This place has some nice features, like underground parking, convenient location to train, and shopping/dining choices. However, the staff was friendly but not very inspired. We complained about the air conditioning and were told that it worked just fine but that it was simply too hot outside for the room to be cool -- what a great Catch 22! Also, be careful that you don't get a room on the back side next to the train tracks or on the east side where the building next store keeps their lights on all evening and shining into your room.

If this is 4.5 stars then backpacker accomodation is 3 stars. The rooms are poky, the decor is old and tired. Air conditioning vents hanging over our bed, dirty walls, noisy showers, slippery bathtupos to shower in behind a disgusting old folding shower screen. Foxtel? About 2 channels available and the free to air receptions was horrible in any case. The gym is three machines and the pool is just a big spa bath.
To top it off be prepared for the "6 o'clock rock" in the morning when the trains start rumbling past (ncluding freight trains). Not recommended, should be reviewed down severely and stop false advertising.

Having stayed with Manor House during previous Melbourne stop over's I must admit that this time will most definitely be our last. The website suggests that a 3 bedroom apartment can house a family of six comfortably - so we went ahead and booked it for 6 people. Perhaps they have misunderstood the needs of six people in one hotel room because the bedrooms were hardly even big enough to swing a cat in. The dining area only seated 4 people and so too did the couches, definitely not my idea of comfort for six. One bathroom for six people is also a bit of a con really.

The standard of the hotel has definitely dropped several notches since my last stay here, the shower made an awfully loud screeching sound every time it was used (which was often given there were six people using one bathroom), the toilet continually flushed and our bathroom was only kitted out with one toilet roll. Upon arrival, one of the quilts had dirt and hair on it so we asked reception if this could be changed, they obliged however when we returned to our room it had merely been brushed off. We could have done that ourselves if we had wanted.

Such a small space dirtied easily so after our first night we placed the 'make my room up sign' on our door as we left early Saturday morning. We even specifically requested to reception that our room be tidied, this request was met with marked attitude "we always clean our rooms". Upon returning to our room on Saturday evening we were angry to see that it had not been touched. When we rung reception to enquire we were merely told that the cleaners had gone home and must have missed our room. More towels and a single toilet roll were delivered to our room twenty or so minutes later, another toilet roll was delivered upon request again with a definite attitude by reception staff (the young lady almost throwing the roll at us). After reading the sign that rooms are not cleaned on Sundays only served to infuriate us more, as you can probably imagine 6 (female adults) in such a small space for 4 days with absolutely no room service meant for a very uncomfortable and irritable stay. Our bins had more than overflowed and the bathroom was a damp and soggy mess. I am still unclear how a serviced apartment can omit services on a Sunday.

The final straw was when two of our guests who had to leave early Sunday morning requested a 6.45am taxi pick up through the reception staff, surprise surprise the taxi did not show up. We did however receive a call at 6.45pm Sunday evening advising that our taxi had arrived out front, only 12 hours too late. The 4.5 star rating is a joke, and should be reviewed immediately as it is falsely promotes Manor House as being a residence of superior service and value. We will never be staying at Manor House again and will be certain to spread the word of the appalling service we received during our three night stay.
