“Boring and straight-laced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Left the museum feeling as if I had been lectured for not being politically-correct. Best thing was the reconstruction of conditions on the immigration ships.

“Something to do on a rainy day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

It's a terrific concept. Learning about the history of Melbourne from the eyes of the immigrants is good. But the museum could spend a little more and become more interactive in order to keep younger minds entertained.

Adults will ove it. Most kids will want to get out pretty quick!

“Valuable presentation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

The seniors discount is generous and rendered our visit great value for money but our 'younger" interstate visitors, who paid full price, agreed that it was an interesting and informative couple of hours well spent. The rooms are well presented with a wonderful variety of historical information, much of it on a personal level, which portrays the experiences of migrants of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities. Their stories include insights into their countries of origin, their journeys and their lives in Australia, some to the present day. The mementoes and artefacts are complemented by recorded video interviews and documentaries and one couldn't help but be moved by some renditions of their personal experiences. One visit probably doesn't do it justice. Allow two to three hours.

“Very interesting visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

An excellent history of the immigration into Australia and Melbourne with lots of individual stories, and audio visual presentations. We comfortably spent about 3 hours in there and for seniors it's free!
