“Top Notch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

The Como is always my first choice for accommodation whenever I'm in Melbourne. Everything about the experience is top notch, the staff, service, room, ambience, food and the cherry on the cake for me is the luxurious bathroom with a bath I could swim in! My only tiny frustration is the additional and rather hefty fee for wireless.

The hotel continues to be one of the better business hotels in Melbourne, ideally located by the river, close to Melbourne city and within walking distance to one of the cities premium restaurant precincts.

Firstly, I would like to say that the staff were absolutely lovely and great to deal with. The room was beautiful (one bedroom suite) and the spa bath was excellent. However if you plan to stay just to enjoy the hotel I probably wouldn't bother.
Having arrived Monday afternoon with Melbourne having had 13mm of rain and having both our coats soaked through we decided to have a quiet night in and not bother exploring the city. That was probably a mistake on our part. Even though the hotel offers Television services they really aren't an option, I tried to hook my mobile up to the tv with no luck due to the service it was running. After doing a little research I found that the TV model was most likely a Philips plasma from around 2005, this is pre-digital, not HD and had about 6 or 7 analogue channels that as far I was aware were on the verge of being shut off. I'm not sure what will happen when they disappear and the only thing the tv can run are On Demand movies. Not only this but on the network box attached to the back of the tv I found the word "Faulty" written. The evening was spent watching programs on a 7 inch tablet screen.
As an accor member I had hoped that my status privileges would have been already set up, however I had to ask for anything that should have been included. It took about 5 hours for the wifi to be set up properly in the room, the staff having to contact the same group who they have contracted for their on demand movies...
Those gripes aside, the pool is great as is the gym. It is very well located and very near a Lindt Cafe that I highly recommend visiting.
Until they update to the digital age I can't really recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Any room with a spa is great, given that there isn't much extra between open plan spa and one be...

That's correct. I checked in at 1230am and checked out at 7am. My flight into Melbourne was delayed, so I was bleary eyed upon arrival. But the gentleman at reception was quite accommodating. I was upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen albeit quite unnecessary since I had to depart at 7am. The decor is fashion forward, and the rooms are well kept. The continental breakfast was OK, and I've had better at other business hotels.

Stayed at the Como last week, largely chose on the basis of TripAdvisor ratings. The studio apartment was surprisingly spacious, with a bathroom that my daughter would describe as "lush"! The beds are some of the best of slept on, the setting is perfect for South Yarra, Toorak and Chapel Street and a short walk from the tram stop and South Yarra station if one wishes to travel into the city. Nice if smallish pool and sun terrace, but that said I had it and the gym to myself throughout the four days I was there. One minor complaint, only one internet station/PC (I left my laptop at home).
