“Beautiful Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2010

We stayed here on our honeymoon and were upgraded to a beautiful, spacious room with a juliet balcony to the street. Though not familar with Melbourne, we thought it was in a great, lively location and we could walk to mostly everywhere. All the amenities you would expect from a Westin.

Beautiful Hotel in the most amazing position in the heart of the CBD. Pool and saw are so relaxing and amazing, anyone would just love it. You cannot fault the cleanliness, the location or the staff. The concierge are definitely 5 stars, know everything about Melbourne or know how to find it.

We stay there for 6 nights to visit my family in Melbourne. Originally, we want to book Crown but they are full, so we pick our 2nd choice The Westin.

Great location if you are going there for business as it is right on Collin Street. Super convenient. Deco is ok and it is clean. We stay at a room facing Swantson St, where we wrong that the train will be too noise for us, but it turned out to be ok. staff services is generally ok.

The down sides are :
- horrible in-room food quality, perhaps it is better to dine outside or just pop down to Brunetti for cafe food.
- empty bottles and cans were still in the trash bin after they serviced and made our room in the morning ... that was a shock when we went at night time. Something there will be town or other trash next to the bed .... this is really our first time to experience in a hotel : ( ....
- their Martin Bar close on Sunday !!!! the last drink order in the front lounge reception area close at 11pm !!! they told us to drink in the room or outside the hotel if we want more wine !! I don't understand ??? !! this is wrong !

I think their health concept didn't turn out as what they thought. They need to review their hotel image/branding/ direction, once done, they need a totally commitment and really have it done well. They were kind of half in it but not committed... There is no character ..

Another stay at the Westin, again this hotel does it the best in Melbourne : early check in they accommodated me, plush twin room upgrade to level 7, quiet room even facing Fed square. Great beds, huge bathrooms with choice of normal and drenching showers. Dined at Allegro, the in house restaurant : pretty good. The breakfast was included in the room fee on this stay ( at a good rate too) and was nice and substantial.

The location can't be beat, walking distance to everything that matters in the CBD and beyond. Staff are mostly young ( or I'm getting old!) but are very keen to help and very pleasant. You can't go this place , check for the specials that come and go on their website.

This was my 3rd stay at the Westin Melbourne and its never failed to deliver. Stunning, true 5 star hotel with attention to detail, excellent staff, beautiful rooms, yummy linen and fantastic sized rooms. Our twin room managed to hold our mountains of shopping bags. I loved the personal greeting when we hopped out of the taxi and every single time we return to the hotel throughout our stay. The location is superb, so central, what you save in accommodation staying somewhere cheaper, you will surely spend on transport. We walked everywhere, our only cost was a taxi to and from the airport. Could do with a few more specials, there often seems to be so called specials for around the AU$410 mark (standard room) which is quite pricey. When I got to Sydney I usually always stay at the Westin there too but last time I found a deal through the Hilton for $200 which was excellent value. I think the Westin would possibly retain customer loyalty if there were more specials. I'm a Starwood Preferred Guest but it seems to take so many visits before you have enough points for a free night. Probably only valuable to the business person who travels constantly.
Would definitely return to the Westin Melbourne, no matter the cost. The breakfast is FANTASTIC and I could have spent an entire day in their swimming pool and steam room.

The hotel looks fresh, smart and stylish. Lovely room - spacious and newly renovated in a handsome neutral/navy palette. Great Westin bed, and a roomy bathroom with an excellent soaking tub. A small surprise when I opened the curtains from my third floor room, looking straight at the gentlemen doing the same in an adjacent room! Apart from my bemused neighbour, the room did not feature a view, but that was fine as I was in town for work, not the ambience. I probably wouldn't bother with breakfast again - the meal was fine, but I thought that the restaurant was oddly situated and lacked atmosphere. The hotel is well located in the CBD, and the bell desk was very efficient and courteous. I would certainly stay here again.

Positive comments: Very nice beds, central location and free WiFi
Negative comments : Very young Staff who did not understand the word Service ( we were advised to find our room ourselves )
Run down Pool and Fitness area in the basement with no Attendent and not clean.
Very expensive breakfasts ( there is a Starbucks just outside the Hotel that we used )
Concierge was helpful when you could find one ( mostly not at their desk )
Traffic noise from Collins Street which started early with the Trams.

Dear Sevdoc,
Warm greetings from The Westin Melbourne.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay. Please note the service you experienced is not reflective of the service culture we have instilled in our associates and I will be sure this matter is addressed. Regarding the tram noises you heard, our guests have the option of choosing City View Rooms which look out to the landscapes of Melbourne or Westin Rooms which look into Regent Place and may offer a quieter option.
Be well.
