“Luxury , Comfort & 5* Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2009

What a hotel! From the moment you arrive, you feel special. The doorman is there to welcome you and open that door. A luxurious yet subtle foyer where at the reception it took us no longer than 2 minutes 2 check in by friendly staff.
The hotel is only 7 floors so it is more like a 5* boutique hotel. It is also down near the bottom end of Collins St so you are very centrally located. The rooms are gorgeous. A 2 basin bathroom with a large spa bath and separate but huge "heavenly" shower. There is the shower spray from the ceiling or the hand held, adjustable shower. Your pick.
The bathroom is the size of a bedroom. The bedroom itself had a king size "heavenly" bed. No lumpy beds here. The linen and ALL those pillows were just gorgeous. The rooms are a good size with a mini bar, tv on a lazy susan, writing desk and armchair with footstool. I could live there. The staff were ALWAYS happy to see you and always acknowledged you. It was like a dream for 3 nights. Only downfall, very expensive to eat within. $7 for a glass of juice or $12 for freshly squeezed was over the top. Thank goodness for Brunettis which is outside the hotel in the square below. Here we had lovely coffee, pastry, breakfast and whatever else you wanted. Will never stay anywhere other than the Westin in Melbourne again.

stayed here for 3 nights in 2 westin rooms with views of the city, very nice. nice easy walking distance to all the shops and laneways. the conceirge inside was not at all helpful(only negative) but everything else great. would stay here again for the handiness to everything. Had dinner at jamie olivers reatuarant 15 , fabulous food, shame that our table looked directly to the dishwasher packing and washing dishes!! and strong smell of fermenting rubbish or similar somewhere near our table. But food excellent!
as for the westin we can recommend!

We spent a Saturday night at the beautiful Westin Hotel in our home town of Melbourne. The deluxe king room we stayed in on the fifth floor overlooked Collins Street and was perfectly appointed. The bed was supremely comfortable, but as noted by a previous reviewer, the cover of the duvet is certainly not cotton - but a shiny inferior fabric. I had to make sure that the sheet below it protected me! This is a shame as everything else about our stay was great.

We got a late check out allowing us to stroll around our beautiful city. It is one block from the Yarra River and Southbank area. On Sunday mornings there is a great craft market at Southbank featuring all sort of local talent - ideal for more interesting souvenirs/gifts. We ate out so can't comment about the food at the Westin. Check in and out were quick and efficient

Fantastic experience in a great location!

Bathrooms and bedding a real highlight. Only downside is the noise of the street cleaners far earlier than you would like to see, but that's the crime for staying in the middle of a big party tow.

Room service was excellent even if it was a little over priced. The delivery speed made up for the $$ spent.

Great service throughout the hotel, the bar on the first floor a real winner with the brand name mid thirties men and women of Melbourne!

Will be back.

The Westin Melbourne is a high end business hotel with spacious, immaculate, pleasant rooms in a good location for walking to nearly all of Melbourne's urban attractions.

The gym was good and open 24/7. The business center offered use of computers and internet without charge. The restaurant offered a very good breakfast buffet. We had some confusion about whether the breakfast was included. Be sure to clarify when making your reservation. The dinner menu was good but maybe a little limited. There are many cafes nearby, including a Starbucks on the adjoining plaza.

Access to the hotel is via a driveway off Little Collins Street with the Chanel boutique on the corner. The Yarro River and newer south bank cafes and arts complex are within walking distance, as are the "laneways" that are a Melbourne feature, theaters, and shopping.

The only negative would be that half the rooms face either a wall or the entry driveway, which is in the middle of a city block. We weren't in the room much, anyway.

I would definitely return.

I have been staying at this hotel for some years, and love it. Everything is perfect. But no more. On my last trip, they changed the sheets so that the doona covers are 100% polyester (not kidding) and the sheets are 50/50 polyester and cotton. To make it worse, the sheets have clearly been purchased for durability. If you like sleeping on a scratchy canvas sack, you'll love these.
Apart from that, the rest of the hotel is immaculate, beautiful and well-run.
If you're not fussy about bed-linen, it's the hotel for you.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Depends if they're fussy about their bedding.

This is one of the best business hotels. We left prior to the start of the Australian Open, should have stayed though. In 2006 we stayed at the Sofitel, which was also a great business hotel, but the location was not as central as the Westin.

We were there for 9 nights and we stayed at one of the corner rooms. It was really spacious. Windows on two adjacent walls. I think it was floor to ceiling windows in the bathroom with the sinks facing the windows and separate bath and shower. The bathroom itself was probably more than 100sqm.

The location was the best, trams to most everywhere was right at your doorsteps. We didn't notice much noise from the trams nor the traffic below even though we were at the corner of Swanston and Collins Street. We did pay attention to that as I have read about the noise from other travelers.

The food was good, though we only been to the Allegro. We were not able to finished the fries and they were kind enough to bring it up for us when we got back to our room. We didn't spent much time eating at the hotel as there wee just so many choices within walking distance. What my wife and I have always loved about Melbourne was their sushi rolls, so inexpensive and tasty. Also the Italian food on Lygon street were great, can't remember the name of the restaurant, its the one which has two floors and sits at the corner of Grantton and Lygon. I think there is a bicycle as a sign. I mean for those who have never been to Melbourne, if you stroll through the little alleys within the CBD you are bound to fine some surprises.

We spent most days out and about, going to the Zoo, Victoria Market, Chapel Street, and taking the tram up and down the city. That was before our second daughters. With two young kids we hardly manage to get out of hotel/resort's doors...

Anyways, the hotel is elegant and modern. Very clean and the staff are very helpful even at 12:00am. We arrived at about 12:30am, so they were wide awake ready for us.

Some might find this place leaning a little too much on the business side, but we still found it welcoming and if you are looking for a first class hotel within the CBD this is a great choice. Definitely going back. As a matter of fact, have already started planning to stay there this coming Dec, see you there!
