“Still as good as it gets for a business traveller”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Prior to this stay, I was last at the Westin in 2008. I rated it "excellent" then, and have no reason to change my view now.
Check-in was efficient and friendly, and I was delighted to be upgraded to a superior King room on the SPG member's floor. The room itself was huge, with a wonderful bed, and a vast marbled bathroom, with separate bath and shower. The room outlook was towards the corner of Flinders Lane and Swanston Street, a busy precinct, yet there was very little street noise in the room (on the 4th floor). The air-conditioning was quite and remarkably effective, when compared with many hotels I have recently stayed in.
The lounge and bar area on the ground floor is a great place for a coffee or something stronger, and attracts many show business and TV personalities, given the property's proximity to Melbourne's theatre district. I was there the night King Kong opened, in the next-door theatre, and although the hotel was full to bursting, it retained its relaxed and polished demeanour.
The Allegro restaurant is excellent...for breakfast, and, more formally, for dinner. It needs to be; some of the city's best restaurants are but a short walk away.
I checked out at 5am...no fuss, transport organized, and a friendly smile. What more could I ask for?

Room Tip: Being part of the SPG program is an advantage when it comes to room allocation. Higher floors are qu...

Excellent property, excellent staff, room size was decent with extra bed as we got an upgrade.the entire stay was very welcoming.the people in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful.we had breakfast included in our package.the food quality was also good.
the only thing that i was expecting was that it was my husbands birthday during our stay and i asked them to arrange for a cake they actually gave us a muffin size peice..that was a shock.I had asked them to deliver the flowers with the cake at 12 midnight,by mistake they sent it at 2pm.that was sorted but being a gold memeber I expected them to do something special for him..but anyways..excellent place to stay..

Dear Reviewer. Thank you for choosing our hotel to celebrate your husband’s birthday. We are pleased you enjoyed our SuperfoodsRX breakfast and convenient location near to all Melbourne has to offer. Our spacious guest rooms are also certainly amongst the largest in Melbourne and we do receive many comments on the overall size of the room and especially the bathroom. As a Starwood Preferred Gold Guest, we sincerely value your loyalty and are disappointed to read your experience was not a completely fulfilling one and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. We hope you will give us an opportunity of providing a more instinctive experience in the not too distant future. Be well.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The rooms were excellent, bathrooms clean. What does surprise me is that you have to pay for wifi!!!
Breakfast was good, a big selection of different foods.
The location is perfect, next to the theatre where King Kong was playing. Everything is walking distance. On top of that Melbourne is a beautiful city with great restaurants and a lovely shopping area.

Dear Reviewer. Melbourne is a fabulous location for a city getaway and meets all the criteria for a memorable retreat. High speed in room internet has minimal charges starting from $5 or guests are able to utilize complimentary Wi-Fi in the lobby or Business Center. We will certainly share your comments with our Breakfast Chefs, who will be inspired by recognition of their instinctive service. Be well.

Despite minor gripes from my previous stay, I think this is the best hotel in Melbourne. Arrival and greeting in taxi excellent, including an unexpected and much appreciated record of the taxi number in case I had forgotten something. Checkin was warm, friendly and very quick. Standard rooms here are spacious, modern, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom, which I think says a lot about a hotel, is gigantic and just beautiful, with large, soft, multiple white towels, top notch toiletries, and nice lighting. The bed is a proper, honest King size, and extremely comfortable. Unlike many hotels, you don't hear doors slamming. Location is unbeatable. Check out very friendly and I felt a bit sad to be leaving.

The hotel is located in an ideal position, walking distance to everything! Service was also fantastic - from the valley service to room service. We also used the pool/spa/sauna and this was a great way for us to relax during our stay. The spa was a little cold however, so this is definately an area that can be improved upon, if it was to be called a true spa. The room had everything that we needed, and the bed was incredibly comfortable! I did think the styling of the room was a little bland and it didn't look fantastic that the funiture was mismatched. Compared to other Westin hotels around the world, this one was a step down in that regard. Also the staff at front desk were very serious, perhaps a smile and some character would be better received.
Food was incredible!! 5/5 - especially for breakfast!
Would stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to others, its just not as brilliant as other Westin hotels.

Beautifully appointed hotel, in a fantastic location. From the welcome at the door, through the check in and in every other interaction with the staff, it was warm and friendly and welcoming. The hotel is right in the thick of melbourne, minutes walk to lots of places you are probably going to want to see if you're a Melbourne visitor.

If I had to gripe, its that the food and drinks are all a bit on the pricey side. But saying that, it was one of the best strawberry milkshakes I've had in a long time...and I've had a few.

Dear Reviewer. Thank you for taking the time to comment on your visit to our hotel. We are pleased to provide a refreshing oasis in Melbourne’s city centre and delighted to read our associates were perceptive and instinctive to your needs. We will certainly also forward your comment regarding prices to our Food and Beverage department to consider during their next menu review. We are glad you enjoyed our light refreshment at the Lobby Lounge and perhaps on your next visit you could return for our seasonal High Tea. May we mention, SPG also offers 15% off food in all F&B venues (T&C’s apply). Be well.

I recently turned 29 and decided to have a High Tea and chose the Westin as their high tea looked great. I booked for 15 people and explained that there would be 10 - 15. I then asked for a confirmation email to be sent which they agreed, nothing was received so i called 2 days later, nothing again, then i had to call a week later and finally received 2 days later! I was advised credit card needed to hold booking in case of a no shoe because they are "extremely busy on saturdays" I called on the Satu;rday morning to advise in advance that only 12 people to speak to a snotty, rude and ignorant receptionist advising that they were still going to charge for remaining 3 people...when I explained that it was an amendment and not a no show her rudeness elevanted and started arguing with me on the phone. She referred to the email which included this "small print" which did not include anything at this respect. I advised I wanted to speak to a manager (this being the morning of the high tea) and she said he would call me at 12...1pm hit and still no call...so I had to call and speak to the bar supervisor who was not apologetic of bad service and after several twoing and froing eventually agreed to it... Ironically, when we had the high tea the food was lovely and get this...we were the ONLY people having high tea there. Must say I have had a lot of experiences with 4/5 star hotels and always been treated very courteously but this was an absolute joke. Based on service alone, i would never go back!!!

Dear Reviewer. Thank you for your comments regarding your recent dining experience. We apologize for the service you received during the booking process (was not up to our usual high standards.) Our high tea reservations system would usually generate an automatic confirmation of the details for your booking. We are investigating this to make sure the process flow is smooth in the future. All of our food is prepared freshly and made to order thus we require final numbers for larger groups 24 hours prior to serving time. We certainly acknowledge there has been a miscommunication on our behalf and glad you enjoyed the high tea with your friends. We hope to welcome you back soon for the opportunity to provide a more delightful indulgence. Be well.
