“getaway for two”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Our second visit to Stamford. We did "Our shout package", great value for money. we spent extra for spa room. Was great to see renovations finished. Place looked fantastic.
couldn't fault staff or room. Only a few small things, no bubble bath & dirty room service menu (covered in food), quickly remedied by call to housekeeping. There was a bit of noise from lifts, so would make sure not near them next time. As we had voucher for Harry's bar, had a few drinks, then decided to have meal from bar menu. food lovely, only bad thing, curry should have come with small bowl of rice.
Breakfast buffet was well stocked & a nice open area to eat.
Overall another great stay, look forward to another one soon.

Room Tip: make sure room not near elevator's, abit noisy.

Dear nicholettes

Thank you for your complimentary remarks concerning our lobby renovation. We are certainly very pleased with the new look. I’m also thrilled that you enjoyed all the benefits of the Our Shout Package and your constructive feedback is extremely valuable for us to continue to exceed expectations. Your comments have been passed onto the relevant departments for review.

Maybe next time you will enjoy our Romance and Seduction Package…It’s another luxurious treat and is also great value for money.

Enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Location brilliant and compared to some of the service we received in Melbourne shops the Stamford service was outstanding.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Harry's bar is a superb place for a little R&R - say hi to Chad behind the bar.
The rooms are well appointed, full kitchen and very comfortable bed.
Very happy to recommend this hotel - very happy!

Room Tip: grab the upgrade to the king suite if offered

Dear John I

Great to have made such a happy guest of you! We get lots of comments regarding the comfort of our suites and in particular the beds and thanks for your mention of our friendly staff member Chad, he’ll certainly be pleased he made a good impression. Harry’s Bar is a relaxing environment to enjoy a quiet drink.

Close to all the action. Tram is close by in Collins St. Stayed for 5 nights with a friend. Twin beds are huge and comfy. Very quiet and convenient. The bar downstairs is a comfy spot to kick back after a long day shopping. check in was good and they happily checked my bags upon early arrival. Will be back.

We booked a King Suite for the Friday night of the AFL Grand Final Weekend, for my husband, my son and myself.

Hubby had booked it through Wotif, and was meeting us later in the adfternoon at the hotel.
I couldnt check in as it was booked under his name. I did think this was a little strange as the room had been paid in full.

After a quick call to Wotif, and my name added onto the booking, we were allowed to check in. Yay, a nine hour drive to get here and all I wanted was no hassles.

Room was booked for three people, but there was no extra bed, or towels in the room for the third person. Another phone call and this was also sorted.(was a little annoyed that I had to request this when it was clearly on the booking).

The room was great. Quite big, nice comfy lounge and a little kitchenette with everything you need.

Beds were comfy and the suite for us was great.

The location is fantastic. Walk to everything. Flinders St station, Federation Square, plenty of great places to eat nearby.

Walking to the MCG where we were heading the next morning for the Swans victory.

I would surely use this hotel again when staying in Melbourne.

Dear MissPixieLix

What an exciting weekend to be in the city and clearly for you a celebratory weekend too after the Swans victory. I’m sure you and your family will have made the most of it and enjoyed every moment. Sorry for not quite getting it right with the roll-away bed but I’m pleased we were able to quickly resolve the matter so you could get on with relaxing, exploring and cheering your team on.

It’ll be great to have you stay again, we look forward to it!

The hotel consists of two towers, joined by a walkway over the road. The towers are small (16 floors) compared to the buildings nearby. There is a gym, pool and spa on the 16th floor (open from 6am to 10pm). The gym is in great condition and the aerobic machines have TVs built in (just don't forget your headphones to connect for the sound). I stayed in a queen bed room. All the rooms have spa baths and a separate living area / kitchenette which is small but pleasant (more like a tiny apartment). The room was clean, bed was comfy with plenty of cushions and comfortable seating and overall I thought the hotel was excellent. I would recommend it for couples. The room is a very relaxing and comfortable set up. If you don't like heights, then the glass walled lift and central lobby area through the middle of the hotel though may not be for you. The downside of the stay (and it was only a small issue) was that, even though I was on the 11th floor, there was some noise from outside overnight through the single glazed windows. If you remember to bring your earplugs for sleeping (if you are a light sleeper) and earphones (if you use the gym) you will have no complaints.

Dear Judy S

Thanks for your thorough and informative review, I’m sure many travellers will find it useful. Our gym is brand new and state of the art, only opened a month ago so your complimentary feedback is very welcome. Also, we are currently in the process of investigating sound proofing options for the hotel so hopefully soon light sleepers will not be affect like they are now from the cities night time noise.

See you again soon.

I stayed one night at the Stamford Plaza, as part of a short weekend trip to Victoria. The hotel is well located in the CBD, and was great value.

My one bedroom suite was big and spacious for a hotel suite (i.e. it wasn't as big as maybe a serviced apartment, but definitely a great size for a hotel), and while not all 'top shelf' (e.g. the kitchenette was a bit lacking, the bathroom a touch poky, and the one window was somewhat small), overall it definitely met my expectation of a good value five star hotel. And for the price I paid (I managed to grab a special) it was definitely worthwhile.

Aside from all that, on a bit of a novelty note, I was located on one of the higher floors, and enjoyed my rides up and down the in the glass elevators through the full length atrium of the hotel!

Dear Andypf

When you treat yourself to a weekend getaway and you feel completely satisfied with your accommodation choice it really goes a long way to ensuring an overall great trip. Our atrium and glass elevators are a unique feature of the hotel and offer guests a nice point of difference.

I hope we can look forward to welcoming you back again on your next visit.

As other reviews have noted, the location of this hotel is hard to beat. We wanted somewhere close to the Princess Theatre and to Bourke Street Mall and it took us barely 5 minutes to walk to each. The twin room (with kitchenette) was perfect as somewhere to relax before the theatre after a day of shopping! Being AFL Grand Final weekend we were prepared for there to be a little more noise in the evening (particularly with a bard downstairs), but it turned out to be very quiet. We didn't eat at the hotel so cannot comment on either the restaurant or room service. However, we did enjoy breakfast at the European which is a short walk away on Spring Street. All of the staff we encountered during our stay were very polite and efficient (which is not always the case, even in five star hotels!). Will definitely be returning on a future trip.

Dear Good_nights_sleep

You certainly chose a busy weekend to stay in the city! As well as your trip to the theatre and shopping expeditions, I hope you enjoyed the Grand Final atmosphere around the city. There’s not much we aren’t close to here at Stamford Plaza and being in that situation means you can save a lot on transport costs, travel time and hassles – especially when it is busy. I’m glad you found your suite to be the retreat you needed after your outings and the staff to be polite and efficient. Your positive feedback has been very well received and we look forward to hosting you again soon.
