My wife and I spent a relaxing weekend in Melbourne at the Sofitel and the location was great for shopping, galleries, dining, and walking around Melbourne's parks and river verges. The room was very modern and comfortable and the housekeeping staff were wonderful. The difference between Excellent and Very Good for me was the lobby service. There were no bell boys to help with luggage or cab hailing after hours and we often found the concierge desk empty even during prime times. The lobby itself is perched over a sort of indoor mini-mall, which is convenient for some things (like the pharmacy) but takes away from the feel of class. Both the Westin and the Grand Hyatt have better lobbies, better concierge and bell boy services, and a classier feel when you walk in.
