I returned to the Sofitel recently. The service is still good and the location nice and close to restaurants and shops in the CBD.
Try and get a room high up the tower for spectacular views beyond the city to the bay beyond.
The beds are still very comfortable thanks to great mataress toppers and good pillows.
The bathroom is a shower over a bath tub configuration and not particularly luxurious compared to the other big Collin’s street hotels. It always annoys me that the shower water runs around the rim of the bath tub and on the floor.
The lights in the room are controlled by electronic relay switches allowing touch pad control by an ageing CBUS system. This can be irritating when the touch pad glows for a long time at night and the infra-red motion detector in the bathroom leaves the light on at night for many minutes after a late night visit.
A good hotel, but my favourite for a big luxury chain remains the Grand Hyatt down the street and The Westin for boutique opulence.
