“Great Views and Luxurious Beds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

I returned to the Sofitel recently. The service is still good and the location nice and close to restaurants and shops in the CBD.
Try and get a room high up the tower for spectacular views beyond the city to the bay beyond.
The beds are still very comfortable thanks to great mataress toppers and good pillows.
The bathroom is a shower over a bath tub configuration and not particularly luxurious compared to the other big Collin’s street hotels. It always annoys me that the shower water runs around the rim of the bath tub and on the floor.
The lights in the room are controlled by electronic relay switches allowing touch pad control by an ageing CBUS system. This can be irritating when the touch pad glows for a long time at night and the infra-red motion detector in the bathroom leaves the light on at night for many minutes after a late night visit.
A good hotel, but my favourite for a big luxury chain remains the Grand Hyatt down the street and The Westin for boutique opulence.

Room Tip: High up the tower looking over Federation Square

Really did this hotel as the view we had was nice and our bedroom was decently sized. Bathroom could have been bigger however it wasn't a big deal. We had forgotten our phone charger back home and the hotel was about to lend us one for our stay which was really handy. The hotel is located in the CBD so the designer stores and business offices are very close by. There were quite a few renowned restaurants in Melbourne nearby as well. In terms of the main shopping area which had Myer etc. The walk was a little further away but only about 10-15mins max

The Sofitel in Melbourne has both elegance and practical convenience. Its location is superb and the rooms and service just splendid. The views are the best in Melbourne. A really enjoyable stay.
The food is superb.

The hotel is in a fabulous location and provides great views from its elevated location. Easy to walk to many of the Melbourne CBD attractions, restaurants etc.

For the best views, choose a corner room looking to the bay. Fantastic. However, if you suffer with vertigo the floor to ceiling windows might be a bit daunting!

Well appointed bathrooms and good size rooms with comfortable beds. The digital controller for TV, lights etc is annoyingly complex, but not a major issue.

Public areas are very nicely fitted out and great to relax in. We had a meal in the restaurant in a large group which was sadly average and definitely over priced. We were served a tiny salad (enough for 1 person) to share between six people. Also, a small pot of (delicious) potato wedge,s enough for 1 or 2, to share between six. We asked for more wedges for the table, but were told that's all we could have! Pretty astounding at $125 a head for the meal. However, the waiter did later bring us another pot without explanation.

The breakfast area has stunning views. Well worth a visit - make sure you have plenty of time to appreciate it.

Room Tip: Corner rooms looking towards the bay and over the Yarra river provide views that you could stare at...
