“Nice location between city and park!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

I spent 3 nts in this hotel on a business trip as I was attending a Convention in town.
Good location if you want to discover the city and see some green as there is a big park just behind the hotel! I was lucky to have park view room where you can also see the tennis courts where they play the Australian Open! Ask for one of these rooms!
Nice bar on the top of the hotel with amazing view over the city! Great by night! Food was good and service very efficient.
Hotel was a bit far from the Convention Center (5-10 min by taxi) or 30 min walking which I did as very nice journey along the quays, parks and all nice monuments that Melbourne has to offer.
Hotel is also directly connected to a small commercial center, but nothing very exciting to report about that mall.
Nice hotel, with very efficient service!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the tennis courts (Australian Open) and the Park. Amazing view!

I visited this hotel for a weekend break with a girlfriend, and although this was only a one-night stay we really enjoyed it and will happily return.

We required a twin share room, and I was a little surprised that the beds were singles when so many twin shares are now a double-double configuration, but it wasn't a real problem. The sheets were crisp and inviting, the beds super-comfy and a pillow menu is available for guests to choose the type of pillow they prefer.

An impressive lobby greets guests on arrival, and the hotel begins from level 35 upwards, which means that whichever way your view faces it is impressive. There are wooden shutters on the windows to ensure total blackout and a good night's sleep. A lovely deep bath with marble surround graces the bathroom, which also features a self-demisting mirror, magnifying mirror, adjustable height shower (bliss!) and Roger & Gallet amenities. There is also a funky sensor that activates a gentle light under the mirror, meaning you won't crash around in the middle of the night fumbling for the switch.

The hotel is at what's known as the "Paris" end of Collins street in Melbourne's CBD, which includes all the high end designer stores such as Chanel, Hermes, Tiffany, Paul Smith, Louis Vuitton etc. Fabulous for window shopping at the least! Close to Federation Square, it's also a short walk to funky laneway restaurants if you want to explore, although the temptation to cocoon yourself in the Sofitel all weekend is hard to get over.

We managed to enjoy a lovely cocktail in the bar on level 35, but didn't (this time) sample other dining opportunities. I noticed a sumptuous high tea underway on Sunday afternoon in the lobby area, which looks like a must-do on my next visit.

There is a tram stop right outside the hotel on Collins street if you need it, and a shopping mall with cinema adjoins the hotel as well. Nearby theatres were showing blockbusters like "Annie" and there was plenty of activity on the streets, despite inclement weather.

Service was everything you'd expect from a hotel of this reputation and I look forward to returning the next time I'm in Melbourne.

Stayed with my husband at the Sofitel in Melbourne. In a nice area of Melbourne at the Paris end. Rooms were nice and clean. Service was also great. Only wish that they had a swimming Pool on site.

We booked at the last minute on our Advantage Plus card to get a prestige suite 77m2 on the 48th floor with access to Club Sofitel. We love returning here for the service. Again from the greeting in the driveway on arrival to the nice touch of the parking attendant removing our empty take away cups from their holders as he delivered our car. It is the small touches that make the difference. We found Club Sofitel busy on a Saturday night. Still great service and good quality provision of food and wine. Breakfast was lovely especially a wonderful pot of English Breakfast Tea. Not always the case in big hotels I find. The room was great although the bathrooms are now getting a bit dated and they are on the small side. All made up for by the superb view and service provided. I will say on the last two occasions the service in The Atrium for Cocktails was below that in the rest of the hotel. It was no where as friendly or welcoming.

Room Tip: All rooms are above 36th floor and have wonderful views. Club Sofitel offers a nice experience.Satur...

This hotel has style. Not only in the name Sofitel but from the french flair and style throughout from the 'Bonjour' greeting from front line staff to the Roger & Gallet toileteries. What makes this hotel extra special is the rooms and bars start from level 35 and upwards giving excellent views and no traffic noise whatsever from the rooms. If I had to pick fault, be it minor, the shower over the bath - would have preferred just a larger shower and better lighting particularly when shaving or pruning!! - even with the shaving mirror illuminated .The Bose sound system and wall mounted speakers, and extra comfortable bed set this hotel apart from the rest in Melbourne. Truly a 5 star experience - it's all in the attention to detail.

Room Tip: They are all good

Great hotel - wonderful views, good service and helpful staff. Rooms were very large and the hotel bar was accomodating. The major negative was that no free wifi was available for guests (despite the expensive rooms).
