“Lovely service, mobile reception an issue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2012 via mobile

Stayed two nights on business. Exceptional views from corner room. Most comfy bed ever. Bathroom was lovely although slightly lacking in bench space. Very good service, marred only by bed remaining unmade despite extra request. Green credentials in planting a tree for every re-used towel.would stay again.

We just spent 8 days at the Sofitel in Melbourne and it was amazing!! We travelled as a couple but stayed there with friends. The hotel is beautiful and it is in a great location. We stayed in a king room on the third floor facing the city, which is an entry level room but nothing basic about it. The view from anywhere is breathtaking, though even better in the rooms facing the river. Our room was large with a king size bed and lounge chairs as well as a desk. There was no balcony, but 3 large floor to ceiling windows with shutters and blinds. Everything in the room is controlled from a panel next to the bed and the the sound system is surround sound! There is also a pillow menu so you can change your pillows if you want. There are 2 massage chairs in the Gym which were the best I have tried and use of them is free. The staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We had breakfast at the hotel every morning and it was delicious. We were seated by staff who immediately brought a pot of tea or coffee. Breakfast a large buffet with an egg station, but you can also choose a continental breakfast if you prefer. The only thing that I can comment on is that the buffet was the same every day, but for us that was a bonus as there is so much food that you could easily have something different every day and also eat your favourites!! So yum!! Dinner in the restaurant is fine dinning and beautiful. A must to do at least once! We will definitely be back!

My fav hotel in Melbourne is Crown Towers, but i thought i would try the Sofitel on Collins just to compare. The lobby is sumptuous and cosy, The Crown has a larger and more dramatic lobby. I was greeted with a "Bonjour", which is a very nice touch for a French hotel. I choose a luxury King Club room on the 49th floor. This room had access to the club lounge. The view over Melb North was quite impressive from this floor. The room itself is again cosy and impressive, with muted neutrals and comfortable furniture. There is a space for 1 suitcase and a wardrobe, 2 lounge chairs and a small table by one of the 3 floor to ceiling windows, a writing desk and an ensuite. The bathroom is cream marble with a shower over the bath. In comparison to Crown, their standard room is a lot larger with a proper walk in robe area, and a huge elegant bathroom with a seperate tub and shower and a tv for those who like to watch while soaking! The view is also comparable with Crown looking over the Yarra River. The sofitel has its electronics on a small screen by the bed which is handy but impractical at times, it also has L'Occitane bath products and my turn down service gift was a lovely lavender linen spray. Very nice touches. The highlight of my stay, however, was the club lounge. A beautiful space on the 35th floor with warm furniture, a magnificent view from very tall windows and a fake log fire place at the end with couches all around it. They serve afternoon tea, pre-dinner drinks and canapes with an excellent wine selection. On the evening i was there they served oysters and prawns as well as the usual dips and cheese. i really didn't need dinner afterwards and watching the sun go down and the lights come on over Melbourne was wonderful with my Tassie sparkling in hand. Their lounge certainly wins against Crown towers club lounge.

Room Tip: I had room 4920 which looked over the North of Melb.
