“Great location in a great hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2011

This was my boyfriend and I second time staying at the Rydges Melbourne. The first time we found the hotel very accomodating and in a great location that we returned. We actually booked our first night through Zuji and I wouldn't recommend that because it was just a major fail because the staff told me that the room we had booked through zuji wasn't even available. But staff were pleasant to fix this all up and assign a room asap as we were still half asleep.

Our first night we stayed in an executive king and the remaining 6 nights in a deluxe queen. The rooms have had some renovating and I thought they looked nice and quite modern. Being on the 13th floor I didn't find any probs with street noise but our room was close to lift so sometimes that was a little noisy.

The room was clean and cool esp when we arrived during a heatwave. If you have the option get breakfast included its really good. The egg chef will cook your eggs however you want and they have a wide selection of hot and cold foods.

Since my last visit they have introduced a fitness center and a partnership with Fitness first. They only have a few machine in the fitness center but if you want to do a proper workout you might as well walk down to the Fitness First QV on Russell street with excellent facilities.

A great stay would happily return in a heartbeat.

I had not stayed at Rydges in Melbourne for years and forgotten how handy it is to so many of th events and city in general. It looked like the hotel had a refurbishment in the past couple of years so was quiet presentable for a 3-4 star hotel. We were lucky to get accommodation at this time due to the tennis. Would stay again.

Location is everything for convenience and as witnesse don some of the feedback on the hotel Rydges enjoys a very good site for all the many activities that go on in the city. In particular for the leisure traveller, being across the road from the amazing Her Majesty's Theatre and within a 5 minute walk to Princess Theatre and the Comedy theatre, certainly makes life easy for guests staying in the city.

We stayed at Rydges while attending the Australian Open. The location was fantastic. Easy to walk to Federation Square to catch a free shuttle to the tennis and easy to walk back from the stadium at night.. Also near a tram stop for the free city tram. Also great location to visit the theatre just across the road. An added bonus was the proximity to China Town.
The rooms were very clean and a good size. The breakfasts were very good. freshly cooked eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice and a good selection of bread.
all the staff we had dealing with were polite, helpful and cheerful. I would definitely recommend this hotel and go back again

We stayed for my wifes birthday for two nights and went to the tennis - walking distance to hotel. we had a lovely dinner one night and Kelly in the restaurant was fantastic! She really made my wifes birthday quite special. I will stay here again as the priority club has really good benefits. Rooms are mostly a bit dated, but the beds are very comfortable.

Excellent hotel and great value especially for somewhere in the heart of the CBD. Some of the rooms are outdated, but the beds were very comfortable.
The breakfast was amazing, some of the best pancakes I've ever had! I wasn't so keen on the meals we had at the bar however, it was expensive and a small portion.

It was pleasing to see most aspects of your stay were pleasing and met with your approval, I will certainly look into the bar snacks and ensure they are good value for the portions. Generally depending on what it is being requested we have had very positive feedback on these items.

Rydges Melbourne is a functional 4 star hotel adjacent to both the commercial and retail areas of Melbourne.

The rooms are renovated 1970's hotel rooms - they are not large but are appropriately equipped. The bathrooms are equally small but work and have a suitable range of toiletries.

Check in was handled by a very friendly and efficient receptionist - same at checkout - accurate, speedy and very bright and cheery.

I ate breakfast in the hotel and was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service. Everything and more that you you find in a 5 star dining room. I rated it better than the "usual" 5 star hotel that I usually stay in.

Don't expect 5 star luxury - but expect a very functional 4 star hotel with staff that are attentive to needs and very personable.

When it came to review my bill I felt that I had received excellent value for money - all things considered.

Although I wouldnt choose to stay here for a romantic weekend away with my husband as a hotel for business trips or a family weekend away you cant beat it. We always stay at Rydges when we travel to Melbourne with our kids. Its a great family hotel with excellent staff who are always more than willing to help with any queries request or problems that might arise. The staff in Laconda are always absolutely fantastic and extremely friendly and they offer great service. Breakfast is always fantastic even when you arrive late. Although the hotel is quite old the rooms are always clean and any maintenence thats required is always seen to promptly. Some of the rooms are quite small but like anything you get what you pay for. The hotel is in a fantastic location and gives easy access to all of melbournes main attractions if your kids dont mind walking. We always walk to and from the MCG, as well as most other melbourne attractions. Plenty of decent restaurants near by, trams are not far away and the staff will always help with maps and directions when required. We have stayed at this hotel several times a year since our kids where qiute small and we will continue to so as it offers great value for money. As a family hotel you cant beat it!!!

It was pleasing to see Rydges Melbourne caers for your needs with the family. It is hoped that the suites will recieve an upgrade in the future to fix some of the age issues you have mentioned.
