Booked for Friday night in a Queen room, specified a high room away from elevator so they gave us 13th floor right next to elevator! you could hear the elevator every time it went up and down. I went down to reception and they found us another room down the hall that was much better.
Bed was very comfortable, room small but really all you need for a one night stay, bathroom a bit dated, toilet was very close to door and wall and would not suit a bigger person plus if you leaned back the seat lid touched the button and flushed toilet!
All in all it was good value for a room in the city next to chinatown and theatres. Friendly staff, we would stay there again if the price is right.

Very quiet hotel. Nice clean streamlined service every visit, I know what to expect and I like it.

Positives: location, beds, green rewards card for not getting your room serviced for stays if more then one night $10 credit to use in hotel.

Negatives: aircons/heating are hit and miss, most are old and there's about a 20% chance you will get one that doesn't function. Bathrooms are small so usually have to close the door to use the facilities

Have stayed here a couple of times on business. Overall the hotel feels tired and the rooms are quite noisy, dependent on allocated position.
The location in the CBD is okay if somewhat uninteresting at night, although there are some nice restaurants around the corner in Collins Street. Meals including breakfast at the hotel are generally average and expensive to boot.
In my opinion, this is typical of a tourist class hotel you would find anywhere in the world. Not a lot of soul but a bed and shower for the night.

Stayed here due to it being the venue for a conference. As a Rydges Priority Club gold member, I was offered an upgrade by email and accepted, paying extra for a one bedroom apartment. However, so much for a loyalty club membership!...the upgrade was not available at check in.
The so-called "executive king" room was sparsely furnished and had the smallest bathroom in the world. Along the corridor, other rooms were being renovated and the carpet was littered with bits of paint that hadn't been cleaned up. Leaving the lift we were greeted with a tradesman's trolley. The requested newspapers also didn't turn up.
After staying for years at Rydges Bell City with great satisfaction, we were very disappointed at this property and checked out early. It really needs a good makeover.... Especially the cramped and dated bathroom!

Apart from the central location to the Melbourne CBD, this hotel is just what you expect from the Rydges brand....average. For a weekend stay to see a show (it is nearby most of the cities theatres) and be close to the city and China Town, it would be adequate. The rooms are stock standard Rydges rooms, the same decor and amenities that they all have. The air conditioning is a wall mounted unit and is very noisy. If you become a Rydges member (no cost and can be done on the spot) you will receive discounted WiFi and a welcome drink voucher. No gym in the hotel. Roof top pool if weather permits. The staff are generally friendly but have come across a few who were a bit brusque. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed!

Most convenient location directly adjacent to two live theatres.
Extremely comfortable beds and a clean, comfortable room with everything we needed.
The staff were amazing - so helpful, friendly and welcoming. They gave us information on the live show available and other information and a map. Obviously Rydges staff training is top class as are the staff they choose to employ.
The breakfasts were delicious with plenty of choice.
We spent quite some time enjoying a tea or drink around the lobby fire - connecting with other guests - one of whom came to dinner with us!
We were offered a fabulous upgrade and were very grateful - thank you!
I will be returning for sure and highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Our double king suite was fantastic and very spacious.

This was our second stay at Rydges Exhibition Street - both times we've stayed in the Premier Spa Suite. The Spa is huge which we just love, infact the whole room is huge. We didn't really use the living area too much but it was decked out with simple/tidy decor. The bed was a bit of a disappointment the 2nd time and there was a lot of street noise also because we were in a suite closer to ground than the first time. Love being in the heart of the city but being able to chill out in the tub, great stay for those who like pampering. We had the buffet breakfast in the morning which was plentiful and fresh.

Room Tip: If you get the Premier suite, ask for one on a higher floor. Too much noise from the street on the l...
