We chose to stay at the Rydges for our wedding anniversary night away. We booked through the Rydges webpage and joined up for the Priority Guest Rewards program for free - this gave us the best deal and extras such as 1pm check out and free drink on arrival .
We stayed in an Executive King Room - on the 16th floor with a beautiful view. The room was clean and tidy, bed was incredibly comfortable - pillows were not to our liking - but doable for the night. The toilet space was a bit tight in the bathroom but otherwise the bathroom was good.
It was a perfect location as we had tickets for a show at the Princess Theater, parking was also handy as directly next door. Plenty of options for dining and in the free team zone to travel to the casino.
The service was fabulous on all encounters . We were also pleasantly surprised when Kate and the team from reception sent up a bottle of champagne and card to wish us a happy anniversary! We wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Rydges Melbourne again!

Stayed here for one night: good location near good places to eat dinner and breakfast, deluxe room is not large by Australian standards but manageable, room was well sound proofed. On the negative: the front desk, both at check-in in the evening & check out in the morning, was chaotic! Too few staff on duty, too many people crammed into the small space with their bags, all jostling to be served. Also, the work desk in the room is small. Overall, if you are just there to sleep, the hotel is fine and reasonably priced.

The room we had was fairly average, prob 3 star at best, I know it was a busy weekend in Melbourne but it was far from a $290 room. The lobby area was nice and the bar was a good spot for a quick drink or two.

Room Tip: Get far away from lifts as possible

We were in Melbourne the ANZAC weekend and stayed in the Queen spa room. We were greeted by a smiling face and a couple of free drinks as we'd had a stressful trip so far, which was a nice gesture. We were very happy with our room; found it was a great size, very comfortable bed and loved the little extras like bath robes.
We found the location of the hotel was fantastic, we were in Melbourne for the ANZAC day football and were only walking distance from the MCG, only took us 15-20mins. The hotel is also walking distance from Lygon Street, China Town, Queen Victoria Markets and some great restaurants. Would be a perfect place to stay if your intending to go to a show at Her Majesty's Theatre right across the road. It was also really easy to get to the Bourke Street Mall and DFO with the tram system so close by.
There was some noise at night but we didnt find it was too disturbing. You get that when staying in the middle of the city.
We would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Think about what you want to achieve, will you really spend that much time in the room? We like conv...

We stayed for three nights in a deluxe room which featured filthy, stained carpet, worn bed linen complete with holes, curtains on their last legs, chipped and dirty paintwork, a hole in the upholstery of the armchair, and the noise from the folk in the next room watching tv. Even the carpet in the lobby was dirty. First impressions count and I have found from my experience that even hotels with less than great rooms generally manage to keep the communal public areas looking fresh and clean, this is not the case with this hotel.
We asked reception to book us into the restaurant for dinner which they failed to do. We showed up with our family and had to wait while they found us a table. We were served by a surly waitress who seemed to begrudge our arrival. The food was also very disappointing. In a city that prides itself on its food I wish we had chosen to eat elsewhere. One member of our party was physically ill around midnight after eating a seafood pasta dish.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Reading the previous reviews almost makes me think I was staying in another place because my experience was so different but I stand by every word.

We loving coming to the Rydges in Melbourne, we have been here a few times over the last 4 years and it provides a very warm welcome every time, from check in, housekeeping and the really friendly restaurant staff its like meeting with friends, and if thats the impression the management are looking to provide they have achieved it well.
The address makes it close to alot of Melbourne amenities, we walk to the CBD as many of the great stores are only minutes away. The suburbs are also only a few dollars by cab.
We always request bed and breakfast as there is often a deal option, and the breakfast here covers all tastes and is of the best quality.
The roof top pool is not only really warm its a great place to admire the city scape and have a great swim, there is also a gym here that we have not utilised but there is often people in there working out.
There is a really nice snug area with a fire and if you on a cold night want to enjoy a drink in front of a roaring fire with a home lounge feel this is the spot to catch up on a good book or emails.
The Wi-Fi is also of great speed here in fact we watched a couple of movies on Netflix without any issue, so all round high quality facilities, there is a business section if you dont have a laptop or tablet to utilise access.

Room Tip: Take your togs they have an excellent roof top pool for swimming

We recently stayed here for 2 nights. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a One Bedroom apartment. Thankfully it was quiet as requested. We could hear a little noise of traffic etc but ok. First upgrade ever!!! The bed was lovely and comfortable. Just curious has anyone bought the "dream bed"???

The apartment was lovely with lounge, kitchenette, spa bath and lovely king size comfty bed. One thing we couldnt seem to control too well was the airconditioning but that was ok we didnt bother staff.

The buffet breakfast was included in our rate. It was very good and plenty of choices. Only thing that surprised me that you had to pay extra for a cappucino or hot chocolate etc. You think that would be included in the cost of your stay, you pay enough for it.

We had dinner in the Locanda restaurant. We had the 3 course set menu for $49.00 each. It was all very nice. We really enjoyed it but somewhat surprised with the salmon dish I had. it stated it had a number of vegetables with it so I thought I wouldn't need to order a side, the main would be sufficient. When I got it sure it had vegetables but tiny bits of it that I thought was somewhat scabby so I should of ordered a side. This is my only complaint about the 3 course meal. My husband main meal I don;t think had any vegetables. I know we could of ordered sides but when a menu describes "vegetables" you would think you get vegetables not vegetables that are so tiny and very little of them, it was disappointing.

We found most staff friendly and helpful. One or two staff seemed a bit abrupt and one guy basically never bought us what we requested. We found this issue mainly with the restaurant staff.

We booked and ordered the Sky bus through reception 2 days prior to our departure. Upon checking out we spoke to someone who suggested we leave on the bus a bit earlier so he changed it for us. All good. We were waiting for the Skybus and it never showed up but when they checked the system it said that we were picked up. How??? We were not picked up nor were we late so don't understand what happened with that hotel/sky bus system. In the end we could a taxi and the hotel kindly paid for it.

Overall we really liked Rydges in Exhibition Street, but just a few things I think should be a bit more attention to detail.

Would stay again but hopefully our feedback is taken seriously.

Room Tip: Quiet room away from traffic worth it. Melbourne can be noisy.
