“Contributed to a wonderful stay in Melbourne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2009

Me and my Mum picked this hotel for our 5 night stay in Melbourne partly after reading some of the reviews on this site, and we weren't disappointed. We arrived mid afternoon, check in was quick and easy, and despite just booking a few days before our special requests for a high floor and city view had been met. The room was very nice, it was immaculately clean, with 2 double beds, tv, seating area and very nice bathroom. The hotel is opposite Flagstaff gardens which are nice to have a stroll through, and about a 15 minute walk to the very centre of Melbourne's shopping area and Federation Square where there are some nice restaurants and the Visitor centre. The neighbourhood is nice and we felt perfectly safe walking to and from our destinations straight away. There is a tram stop about 20 metres from the front of the hotel, and Queen Victoria Markets are a 2 minute walk from the hotel- well worth a look!

The staff at the hotel could not have been more helpful. They were very friendly, and helped us organise the trips we wanted to take. The restaurant and bar staff were also very nice - friendly but professional. The breakfasts were really nice, and my Mum had a lovely meal one evening.

The hotel offers internet access next to the reception, and a fitness centre on the top floor. There is a small terrace up there too, on the day I went up it was too cold to sit out there, but you get a fabulous view of the city.

We had a wonderful time in Melbourne, and the great stay at this hotel definitely helped. I would definitely return to this hotel in the future, and I would reccommend it to others.

P.s There are some lovely restaurants down by the river, just across from Flinder's Street station, La Camera was a personal favourite!

Great for business travel and for me great value
I Stayed in Melbourne to be close to the airport (although its located north western CBD ) on a quick flight turn around. The rate on the night was AUD $164.00
I had been there a couple of times to meet clients for breakfast and late drinks, but never stayed.
I really liked this hotel, not only in terms of size and location but ultimately how well it functioned. All elements such as check in, meals, room allocation and parking made it a great low key business hotel at a good price.
One thing I would point out to families intending to stay at the hotel. This is clearly pitched to business travellers. I am not saying it’s an “anti kids” zone, but simple things like a “kids menu” is absent in the restaurant and room service.
Any let downs?
Well the TV was antediluvian but really that’s it.

The hotel is nothing special but good value and convenient. It had everything we needed for our five-day trip to Melbourne. Standard rooms are clean and had an iron/ironing board, minibar, safe and bath with shower above.
Room was simply decorated but was a bit boring. Complimentary water was a nice touch and our view over the park was cool.
The staff were okay, not overly helpful or friendly but were efficient.
The hotel is a en minute stroll fom the city centre but it was a nice walk and we felt safe at night.
My friend ate at hotel and said the food was good and not too expensive.
If I go back I think I'd rather stay somewhere with a bit more wow factor but again, for the price we paid, about 88 GBP per night, I had no complaints. We liked the hotel and loved Melbourne.

We stayed here for five days over the Australia day long weekend & Australian Open Tennis. We were very pleased to be out of the hussle and bussle, but close enough to stroll to the city centre or docklands when we needed to.
The room was lovely, but I should have booked a park view room. The big screen TV was great for catching up on the tennis.
We booked a room with a kitchette, as I like to organise breakfast and lunch for my partner who is diabetic. The kitchenette was very dissapointing. There was the usual coffee making facilties and a microwave.. that's it. No crockery, no cutlery, no microwave cooking dishes, not even a toaster. The staff tried to help out with some minimal crockery and cutlery but couldn't offer much else.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is right beside the free circle tram stop so you can get to the sights without paying anything. We passed on the buffet breakfast and ate out so we can't comment on that. However, we did order a special breakfast mid morning before we left and it was very tasty and beautifully prepared. There are comfy seats in the foyer area looking out over the park if you don't want to stay in your room. The bar was a great place to relax as well. We didn't eat in but the food did look good.
